30 year rider looking for a bike I can sport ride and tour. Local dealer has a new 2005 VFR(non-ABS) priced at $9278.00. Good price? Also, has a set of red bags in stock. ($1,000) I would get a 15% discount. Bags worth it? Also, concerned about the 10,000 mile valve check as I ride close to 20,000 miles a year. Any and all input will be greatly appreciated. Did I mention that it was love at first sight?

Wild Willy, You came to the wrong place if want someone to stop you! Like SLOVFR said work out a better deal. I purchased a used '05 VFR w/ abs for $8300.00 w/ 1700 mi and a 2yr no-ded ext warr from a dealer. Valve inspections are @ 16k per the serv man. I've read on this site where some guys are going 40k with no adj needed. Kenji

definitely try for the deal slovfr mentioned. they definitely want to get rid of the 05s so you should get bags and extras if you pay near 10k. act like you are not crazy about the bike. say you are looking at a triumph also or something. take your time and let them sweat it a bit...

I seen a 06 pearl white at the local dealership for $7995.00, that probable is their bottom line is, it all depends on the dealership and how hard up they are for sales, I would call around, when it comes to vehicle or motorcycle purchases, I'm usually pretty ruthless...

Seems like a lot of money, especially when ABS is not even a part of the package. Get the dealer for all the aforementioned incentives, and the sales story might be something you can take to the water cooler with pride.

I am not the right guy to stop you. Sense and being pratical and responsible stopped me riding for 15 years. Never regretted anything more in my entire life. All those wasted years. Still I did race bicycles during that period so I was still going fast on two wheels but I sure love being back on a MC. The passion is back.

FWIW I paid 9000 with abs last June for the 05 silver model -- bags 800. Last I looked another dealer had one last month for 8750 ... I don't know where you're at, but these are the prices I've seen in the northern puget sound.
