Need to clean out the fuel filter/pump so need to remove from inside of tank(and cant find any similar threads on the 5th gen)! Right am i correct in saying theres no vacuum set up on this bike so if i remove the main banjo bolt under the tank fuel will just pour out? If so i'll just run it till nearly dry and flip the tank up hopefully that does the trick! Need to sort this bike before the weekend and shes full of juice.

best way is to get a siphon you can get at any hardware or auto parts store.
    link to what I use
Siphon Pump, 6' # 10800/6 by Hopkins Manufacturing
on the end you put in the tank, zip tie it to a pc of threaded rod or stick ( or whatever ) so you can get it to the bottom of the tank.

and yes the banjo bolt when loosend will leak fuel, it is under pressure so you will need to put a rag around it after you drain the fuel when you crack it open.

You dont need no stinking pump to SIPHON the gas out!
Just use any clear plastic tubing, zip tie to stick, push it all the way down to bottom, suck on other end until you nearly taste the gas, and let it run into a jug on the floor.

Why buy a pump you will use only once or twice?

Oh, just looked at the "pump". That is cheap enough, and I guess better than swallowing gas.

Mee Toooo!!!! You could always get an old fuel pump from a wreck and use two lines, one in the tank your draining then the other one to the gas can. You extend the wires and use some alligator clips to attach to a 12v source. Maybe the bikes battery or you have an auxillary one around. I used some shrink wrapped tubing on the soldering. And there you have your hot chit fuel pumper-evacuator thingie. I am sure I have liberated hundereds of gallons over the years from people that brought their bikes in with full tanks.

Oh yeh, you could alway get one of those titz mitivac evacuators too. Mine hooks up the compressor but they have a nice one with a hand pump, I have drained the transmission with mine, nice tool.

    Cheers

Right next to the high pressure banjo on the bottom of tank is the low pressure return line and it has a pinch clamp. Slide back the clamp with pliers, then pull off the hose. Be ready to put your finger over the opening. Stick on a long piece of 5/16" hose with the other end going into your spare gas can. I use a soft vinyl hose clear that I can watch. You can use a clamp on the hose to control flow as the tank holds 5 gal. I only have 2 gal gas cans. I use a spring loaded clamp designed for clamping wood while gluing. Sucking gas into my mouth to start a siphon is an experience I have learned to avoid.

I'm terrible at using the search function, but I'm pretty certain that member KC10FE did a complete write up on the 5th Gen Fuel Filter with some good pictures as well. It might be helpful if you can find it.

I love the taste of fuel in the morning!!!
RC I just drained my tank about two weeks ago. That was to fix a leaking overflow. I put the photos on and a how to. I dont know how to give you the link. It is in Mechanics Garage - Fuel leak help.
The fuel pump was difficult to get out due to the size of the steel wool filtering. But is pretty straight forward. Good luck with it - hope the photos help
