I hate the Sargent Seat on my 03 VFR

I just recently picked up an 03 VFR and it has a pratically new Sargent seat that is comfortable, but ugly as hell to me and causes me big problems with proper body positioning when riding aggressively in the twisties (even a problem when not riding aggresive). I have no problems with the stock seat on the VFR and will be looking to sell the ugly Sargent seat on my 03 VFR. Checking if there are any alternatives before I go back to the stock seat. I really want to get rid of the banana seat and get a split two section seat for my bike. I still have the stock seat on my 2k VFR and have no issues riding 500 miles a day on it. Any seat recommnedations would be appreciated so I can get this ugly Sargent seat off my beautiful 03 VFR.

 

You must be out of your mind.............Well check with Cebuvfr he have a seat that feel like lazyboy. Forgot what it call but you will fall sleep riding with his seat. I am sure he will chim in shortly

 

Hey Scuba wassup. You can call me crazy but I prefer the stock seat - I can go 500+ miles on my 5th Gen stock seat and it needs to be re-covered. I like riding aggressive on the twisties and trying to get my butt of the side of the seat has my back hurting. I do not want or need a seast that feels like a lazyboy chair - I do not like those chairs either lol.

 

I just got a sergent for my 6th gen. I agree that when riding agressively, its not as easy to move around. I took it up to Palomar at Scubalong's bday. But, I'm glad I had it riding from Phx to Oceanside and back.

Track day in 3 weeks = swap out new seat for old one. No way will I take that seat to the track.

 

I MIGHT have 2 stock seats if your interested. If i still have the one left over from the 05' (not damaged) I could let you get it cheap. Let me check when i get home this afternoon and I'll get back to you.

You're not the first person to say the Sargent is not ideal for corner carving. it's more difficult to hang a cheek off because you run into the scooped sides of the seat. On long distances you'll love it though... I love mine; just did a 1300 mile 3 day weekend and wasn't sore a bit! :thumb:

 

Thank you - not disrepecting Saregent or thier seat. I actually think the Sargent is made of good quality material and is well made with full attention given to most details. I just do not find the seat attractive at all and I echo your statements regarding not being an easy seat to move around on - I move around a lot on long runs also.

 

This is a first in my book. You are the single only person I've heard of yet that DOESN'T like a Sargent seat.

Odd I have no problems with mine even when I'm running the twisties at high rates of speed! I love the seat and it looks awesome with the silver welt!

 

For longer distances, the Sargent cannot be beat, however, I agree that it limits your ability to ride the twisties. Stocker is much easier to move around on (hang off). And I do think it looks pretty nice. Just my opinion.

 

When I got my sargent new I didnt like it. After some time it the seat I cant imagine riding without it. I ride pretty aggresively. I find the seat better overall than stock and more comfortable by far.

I ride with a guy on this forum (GuitarX) who had his re-done after not liking it so much. I don't remember the reasons why, or who did the re-fit, but you could send him a PM to find out, if you're interested. He doesn't post up very often, but I'm sure he'd be happy to give you whatever assistance you'd like.

Looks like I only have the one seat. I have one more place to look in my storage unit but I doubt it's there. I'll check and let you know this weekend unless you take 02's seat swap.

 

I swapped my Sargent back to the stock seat for my track day.

Didn't want to mess up the Sargent in case of an oops. I do like the stocker better for the track, so I am with you there buddy.

 

Well I spoke to the dealership and have arranged to return the 03 VTEC VFR. It is not just the Sargent seat but other issues with the bike, and so far I do not like the VTEC engine at all. Standstill takoffs are just too slow and it is too much work trying to go fast on the bike - I like having full power on tap when I need it at all times - just a preference. I still have my Gen 5 VFR and will have to make a decision if I want to re-do the bike or just go with something else. I like the Kawi Z1000 and the ZX14.

 

that sucks emon, that must be one bad motor, cause I think the 6th gen has a bit more bottom then the 5th gen.

 

I am inclined to agree with you - I am really a skepetic because I just do not see how it makes sense to run a bike on two cylinders. I think the bike had some issues and maybe needed a tune-up so the VTEC was not properly represented. I have not totally given up on the VFR, but riding the R1 most of the year has spoiled me because I am so used to having crazy power on tap at all times. I still love the VFR for touring!!!!!!!

 

The VFR VTEC runs on all 4 cylinders. At lower RPM the motor runs on 2 valves per cylinder vs. 4 valves per cylinder.

I own a 5th gen and have ridden 450 miles on a 6th gen. I think the gear driven cams are of questionable value on the 5th gen, but many like the sound. The 6th gen motor seems to pull better to me. <shrug>

I am with you on the R1. I got married last week and the wife much prefers riding on the back of the CBR954 than the VFR800. I was shocked when she told me this, but we took the CBR on our honeymoon last week to Deals Gap. Now she wants to make that trip every year. How can you not love a woman like that? lol

 

There is virtually no difference in power between 5th G and 6th G. Do you think the 2003 bike might have been screwed up somehow?
