Hello, i have 1986 vf 400. Now when i put it on reserve if i'm on the gas i end up draining the carbs. Now this i believe to be due to gunk in my tank clogging up the lower petcock. now I've been trying to drain the fuel from my tank but i can't get any fuel to come out from the bottom. I've even removed the petcock but still no fuel why is this? Now i've dumped out most of the fuel out of the top but i can't get the last bit out (which i'm sure has most of the junk:frown: ) anyway i've worked on lots of dirtbikes before but never streetbikes. Is this something common, am i doing something wrong here?? any help would be great
    thanks

if it were me i would fill the tank with gas. and pour a full bottle of seafoam in it. let it sit for a few days.

afterward i would not recommend using this gas as thats a pretty strong dose of seafoam.

perhaps first though remove the petcock and see if you can see an obstruction either in the petcock, or in the tank. if you can see it then remove it, if not, let it soak.

might simply need a new petcock, i imagine that isent too expensive of a part, i need one for my wifes bike (not vfr) its only 20-25. that will probably fix ur problem.

you may want to concider that the petcock is simply not functioning correctly. as with my wifes bike.
