I've spent two hours of my Sunday afternoon trying to remove the annual State Park permit from the inside of my windscreen. With Goo-Gone, a Dremel, fingernails and a hairdryer, I'm about 75% done.

Methinks these permits are designed for a cage's glass windshield, not a VFR's plastic screen.

    Any ideas?

Question #2: What about preventing this next year? I'm thinking of pasting the permit to a sheet of clear electrostatic vinyl and applying that to the inside of the windscreen.

This would be a non-secure solution, of course.

One more question: I've soaked the remnant of the sticker in Goo-Gone. Is it safe to leave this goop on my windscreen overnight?

Thanks for any advice that can be offered!

I was going to suggest the hairdryer but I see you already tried that. I found a plastic razor blade scraper at the hardware store to works pretty good for getting stikers off if you warm them up first. It doesn't gouge like a steel razor blade can.

WD40 would loosen the glue quite well I think.

120 grit on a random orbital sander would work well too but I don't recommend that.

Goo Begone will melt your wind screen surface. I would not do that. Chemicals and plastic don't mix very well.

    Oh, crap!

I've had the stuff splashed on the permit and screen for 14 hours now.

No need to sneak back home at noon to see the damage, I suppose . . .

When I was in college, I just stuck my parking sticker to a clear piece of plexi-glass or lucite and stuck that on the dash, so that I never had to put the sticker on my windshields.

    Thanks to all.

It still looks bad. I'll deal with it another day . . .

I like the plexiglass/lucite idea. I'll drill a hole in it and loop a cable through so I can lock the permit to the forks.

3M makes a spray for removing stickers and stripes from Cars. It works really well, but I'm not sure if it would damage the windscreen or not. You might find it at a NAPA and definitely at an auto paint supply. I'm sure the paint supplier would know about it's affect on the windscreen.
