Got a trip planned for the northern Arkansas twisties in a couple weeks. Thought I would try to get my Valentine 1 radar detector and I-pod piped into my new helmet.

I just ordered the remote audio adaptor for the V1. Anybody out there have a slick way of doing the job?

    Thanks.

I'm getting ready to head out driving for the day. I'll post up info on my KLUGE tonight if I don't get back to late or first thing.

A few routes to go. Do you just need to be able to hear the ipod & V1? Or do you plan on adding more stuff / going bike-to-bike etc?

I didn't realize he had the Enterprise cockpit going on. It's slick!
At the risk of sounding ghey, I wanted to lick his billet.

Initially I was thinking just the V1 and ipod but I do have a passenger about 25% of the time so maybe intercom too.

At a minimum I need to get the volume up in the V1 so I can hear the thing at the speeds that it might come in handy. Any suggestions on a decent intercom?

    Thanks

BTW - I'm part of the low and slow community too with a 1948 Cessna 170.

I'm still looking for a clean way of connecting my V1 and ipod into my helmet.

The remote audio adaptor from Valentine works good for the radar piece. However I got differing opinions of whether a simple RadioShack splitter would do the job or if the radar detector feedback when it's active, could damage the ipod.

Other options are the Electric Avenues.com Amplirider.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have finaly found a great mount for my radar detector, it is a "Techmount-controle mount" it bolts to either the left or right side of bars to the two bolts inside of the handle grip. Seems to be a great fit and looks good. I have tried to use my radar (Solo S2} in the past using the suction cup mounts on the inside of the windsheild, when I leave the house it seems secure and then after a short drive the vibration would get the best of it and it would lose it's hold. Only once did it actually come off and hit the highway. The danger is that my natural reaction when seeing it falling was to reach out quick to catch it, fortunately I cought myself and let it go but could be a danger. Anyway this new mount seems great, I will try to add a pic of this.
I am considering getting a second mount for the left side to add a GPS or MP3. Does anybody no if there is a GPS unit that has MP3 or sat radio built in to reduce the amount of clutter.

I a set up of a TPX radar detector, Autocom, and my Nano. Real simple with an Autocom, you just get an adapter cable for the radar detector from Autocom and plug it in. Couldn't get easier.

Auto com makes a pretty sweet system for integrating your audio stuff with an intercom and bike to bike capability, I can attest to the fact that it works as advertised and the sound quality is amazing. There are also some cheaper options, that have inputs for everything, J&M, Chatterbox, FireFox, Starflight, etc. If you just want to do the V1 and use buds for the iPod, legalspeeding.com has a little light you put in your helmet that lights off when the detector alerts, there is also a external little screamer of a speaker sold by Aerostitch that you mount to like a handlebar or whatever and plug in the back of the V1, supposedly it is loud enough to be heard in motion, but I couldn't personally say, that would probly be the cheapest option though

    Heres what I have done-
    -home made gps/radar mount
    -Passport 8500 radar (not X5)
-Vizalert Radar interface for wireless alerting in helmet via LEDs
    -Delphi GPS
    -Chatterbox XBI- Bluetooth
-Icombi Dongle- to add onto my iphone to get bluetooth steaming audio
    -iphone for music
-Zox Genesis SVS helmet- Kicks A**

The Vizalert is very easy to install and is MUCH better than the H.A.R.D System available. Vizalert is alot more sofisticated and advanced, is water proof, has the ability to have add ons like laser jammers, has 7 LEDS in the display advising you of what band is being detected and shows a flash rate for the signal strength also, plus it has a motion sensative and light sensative control unit for day and night brightness of LEDS and you dont have to worry about turning it off....does it its self after 10 minutes of non movement. Cheaper than HARD system also.

XBI unit is very nice too for hooking up all your goodies with no wires:thumbsup: Makes all the differance in my opinion, and is alot smaller than a regular Gxrs unit.

I recommend all these items as they work great together, and have not had any issues. my total setup with helmet ran about $700, which does not inclue the iphone or the parts I got for free at work to build the mount.

I am super satisfied with my setup, the only disadvantage I have is that I can not see my tacometer.
