hi, i recently got my interceptor running, but i'm having some issues. First, the engine idles at about 2000 rpms when it first starts and as it warms up it idles all the way up to about 4000 or so. Another issue is shifting, I can't get it into neutral and only feel 3 gears when i shift through. Any direction or help would be great.

    so many possibilities.

Do you know if the choke is physically working correctly? It sounds like the choke is on. With it idling high like that, it would be hard to get into gear. Will the bike shift correctly with the motor off and just sitting in the garage? YOu would likely have to rock it back and forth to work it through the gears.

i'll give that a try with the shifting. I think the choke is fine, my guess right now is a vacuum leak at the carbs. They vacuum system is plugged up at the petcock so i'll give a look down at the carbs. Thanks for the info

If your carbs are synced properly you should be able to adjust the idle speed when the engine is warm. The adjuster is in the front center of the carbs, it is a little black knob. Turn it left to lower the idle speed, pretty easy to get to, but wear gloves because it is hot around there! You can check for an air leak by using a propane torch or some wd-40. A non lit torch with propane on will raise the rpm's around the air leak, as well as spraying wd-40 around a leak, torch is a little safer because your not going to leave a flammable substance on your motor.

As for shifting, can you find neutral when the engine is off? It can be a little tricky at times to get it into neutral because it likes to shift to 2nd instead, i'd say just try to be as gentle as you can moving the shifter up slowly from 1st gear.
