Hi have and 09 VFR and have just put staintune pipes on it. I am concerned at how close the ascending pipe is to the rear tyre. I have spoken with staintune sent pics to them and they say that all looks fine and the tyre and pipe will not touch. I want to put a tyre hugger on but am worried that there is not enough room for it or the heat from the pipe will damage it. The gap between the tyre and pipe is approx 2.5 cm about a cm less than the gap with a stock pip, The staintune is the latest version for the viffer it has the strait T piece joining the mufflers not the S shaped pipe similar to stock. Has anyone fitted a hugger had problems with the clearance between pipe and tyre,

    regards

    Greg

Greg, I have the same bike and the Staintune with the later tee ftg like you. How much clearance do you have between your tire and the tee ftg? With rear travel of 4.7" I don't think you'll have room for a hugger. I have just a little over 4" clearance on mine and am wondering if yours is the same.

Minimum clearance about 3.5cm (just under 1.25inches) to about just over 4cm (1 5/8 inches) over the top of the tyre. This clearance will decrease when the suspension compresses and will be a problem if the hugger fouls the pipe

I have disassembled and reassembled the pipe in an attempt to increase clearance but the pipe pretty much goes on one way only.

Stain tune did get back to me as follows
Our production people have looked at your photos and are if the suspension is correctly adjusted there should not be an issue. We have sold many of those units and have only had an issue with 1 bike which had faulty suspension.

The bike is rated to carry 205 kg. We had 250kg over the back axle and still had clearance.

The system was designed for a standard bike. We don’t know if you will have an issue with a tyre hugger.

Well I will find out if I have issues with a tyre hugger as I have ordered one from harris performance in the UK I am getting a carbon fibre one as I think it will better cope with the heat. But, I don't think it will survive actual contact with the hot pipe It is time to suck it and see
