I have kept my 5th Gen pristine since I bought it in '98 until some crazy ass deer decided to tried to cross the road before I passed. Right side slide down the road could have been worse on the VFR and my Roadcrafter only got a few scuffs. I am glad to have only a slightly sore ankle - that's it. Now it time to do the rehab on the VFR - thanks to Progressive the plastics and pegs are coming soon. Now for some upgrades! Anybody go through powdercoating their wheels to refresh the OEM paint (which is showing its age from so many tire changes?)

    Cheers

I've done the powdercoating wheels route but did them silver instead:

Depending on your location powdercoating isn't that expensive, it cost me $125 to get both wheels powdercoated and even includes sandblasting. One other item to note is that for the front wheel you'll have to replace the wheel bearings since they have to be taken out for the powdercoat job.

And if your brake rotors are getting old might as well replace them but if not you can unscrew them off and put them back on. Make sure to use loctite and a torque wrench when installing the brake rotors again. If you don't ensure a consistent torque on each bolt then your rotors will get warped.

    Haz Man,

I have been using deer warning whistles on my bike ever since one jumped

over me 15 years ago. Here's an article on them . . .

    EB1677 Animal Warning Devices

I'm not sure if they work as advertised but I do know that in the last 15 years

I haven't had another close encounter. In fact I have seen a reaction of the

deer to be slightly frightened and want to move away from the sound.

I clean the deer whistles every time I wash the bike with a toothpick and a blast of air.

    Anyone else have "deer experience?"
