That just doesn't sound right
(please visualize me standing up at this point) Hi, my name is Bevo14 and I am a fellow Interceptor Owner (sitting down now). I was addicted to the V4 for many years. However, in the 90's I began to hang around with a different crowd. A fun and dirty group who was always trying to avoid a rut. As exciting as my friends were, I still longed for those twisty black lines. Unsupervised ribbons of rythmic tangents that lead to special places. To satisfy this craving, I searched the world over..... America, Japan, Germany, England. I found it in Italy where some guy named Pierre hooked me up with a Ducati Multistrada. For six years all was perfect. Long rides into the moutains, proud to have her on my arm for folks to admire. But something changed. I began to question the cost to keep her at her best and feeling I was not getting back what I was putting in. So I began to have a wandering eye.....

I Found my new love waiting for me in Oklahoma. She had been orphaned in a Honda warehouse until adopted and unwrapped at Shawnee Honda in June of this year. Our paths crossed August 10th and I picked up my 25th Anniversary VFR August 14 with 1.8miles on the odometer.

I have ridden many miles in my "career" encompasing both on and off road environments. I have ridden a motorcycle for primary transportation (i.e. commuting), but these days I just ride for pleasure. When on two wheels, it's either single track/4wd roads or sport-touring. Living in Colorado, this equates to street riding from May-Oct and dirt riding Oct-May.

In the short time I have owned the new bike I have accessed this forum on many occasions. A great resource indeed! To contribute and help as you folks have, I plan to post my experiances with the hard-bag/soft-bag delima and cosmetic/graphic tweeks to make my ride unique.

Thanks for reading my first post!
    Till next time....

    Bevo14.

It's great to see another Colorado member in the fold, there aren't many of us. Congrats on your new ride and feel free to hit any of us up for a group ride on the "Colorado riders out there" thread.

Tink is a fellow CO member who has not yet celebrated his coming out party. I'm sure he would appreciate any tips/advice that you might want to share.

The phrase "coming out " is open to many interpretations these days. However, since we here at VFRW are a tolerant bunch, (two minutes pass while laughter subsides), welcome to the forum

    squirrelman, thanks for the note.
Does this valve inspection you speak of cost more than $1645 dollars?
My analness prior to VFR purchase (using service intervals for both bikes) concluded that I would have spent $1645 dollars on valve inspections on my Ducati by the time I reach my first service call for valves on my Honda. Additionally, this figure does not include the various belts and whatnot that goes with a Ducati service call.
    Don't scare me man :^)

I really like my Ducati (no buyer yet) but that mother is expensive if your follow the service schedule.

p.s. Nice photo gallery (and I like the "Barf-a-load" reference!)

There's nothing to worry about in terms of valves. The whole 16k service is about $700 and it includes much more than just the valve inspection. There's also an oil change and a host of other smaller services that are included in that $700. Yeah, it's some money, but it's not ridiculous. I'm not sure what Squirrel is talking about with the Ducati, maybe if you do the work yourself Ducati is easier. However, if you're not a do-it-yourselfer, the cost of ownership on a Duc is substantially higher than it will be on the VFR.

P.S. While the VFR needs a valve inspection every 16k at a cost of $700, if memory serves, don't the Duc's need an inspection every 8k--at a higher cost?

On my '04 multi it's around 3.7k. I currently have 21k on the bike and each valve visit (just to check clearence mind you) ran about $340 dollars. Around 2007 Ducati annouced that due to improved metals and QC, they were able to increase service intervals.

    Check this out....21k/3.7=5.67.......5.67x340=$1930

Now you begin to see why I have returned to Honda :^)
