i have an 85 vf500f, but i want a new, smaller, sleaker front fairing. does anyone know of somewhere i can get a front fairing eliminator kit? pretty much i just want to cover the back of the "dash" and the headlight, no more. I want a true street fighter look out of it. any help?!

That kind of a move is when your own skills and taste come into play as I do not think there was ever a kit and no two street fighters are the same.

I love the flat black look on it but alittle too much modification for my taste. I am thinking about painting mine black (its yellow now) and a small new front cover and headlight. Ill have to try and Jerry Rig something up and see what I can do.

Yellow is a great color for these 500s...

Personally, I dont understand this obsession with making yourself harder to see.

These bikes do lend well to the street fighter look, but all the bug-eye/alien looking light kits out there look out of place on this classic bike.

lol This is the same I'm feeling! I have ordered some universal fork mounts for headlights that clamp onto the front forks. From there, I will modify a single round headlight (maybe dual) on the clamps and stuff all the wires behind the light. Then I will buy an aftermarket gauge cluster that has speedo, tach, engine temp etc that is significantly smaller then the stock stuff and mount it to the fuse box area.

This will hopefully clean up the front end area and get the desired "streetfighter" effect for me!

yea i like the "dash" look persay, and I dont have money to throw around or time to switch everything up. Mobtown, agreed about Yellow, i like it and not painting it real soon. I like the single light though, and I want to keep it and just somehow make a much smaller front "fairing" for the front that only covers the headlight and back of the dash area

Yes! I love this idea. Doing it myself to my VFR 700f. I just picked up a Acerbis headlight from Tinman, simple, dual headlight with small fairing. Acerbis has some nice headlight/fairing combos available for cheap, and not all of them look like an alien or like theyre winking at you with a smaller reg beam/high beam. If ya wanna do it a little better, then Dominator or Aztek make a VERY nice dual 4" or a large single 7" that you can fork mount. Just do a quick ebay search to see pics of them. You would then have to figure out what you were gonna do with your speedo and other guages and existing front fairing stay. If you're looking for a quickish type of facelift, which is what Im doing, than ya can either weld, or use rubber straps that they make for the headlights and mount to existing fairing stay. Ill get some pics when I finally have a chance to get my Acerbis headlight painted and mounted. Good luck..

Hey bigmac I mounted my stock speedo to my upper triple clamp by drilling and tapping it. When you remove the seedo from the stock stay it will have 2 holes on the bottom of the speedo the match up to the upper triple clamp(you should be able to see what I'm talking about when you take off the fuse cover, ign switch, and fuse block). I'll try to take pictures of what I'm talking about and post them.

hey dannyhoo, i'd also love to see those photos... i'm looking to fork-mount my headlight and gauge cluster... wasn't sure if the stripped-down version of my gauges would look good without the fairing, or still a little clunky...

Prolly gonna ditch my Acerbis and order the Aztec8 dual 4" set-up soon. On Aztec's site, I found that they make a guage mounting plate that bolts up to the Aztec Fork Mount Brackets. Heres the link: Products. Its universal so you just align your bolt pattern to the metal plate, drill holes, and mount up.

Tough task to do cleanly. You will have to be very creative with hiding all of the various wiring harness mess and clutter up there.
