Vital fluids are not the place to skimp.

I use Genuine Honda coolant/antifreeze but I buy it from my local Honda car dealer. I'm convinced it the same as what Honda bottles for the M/C dealer. Type 2, Long Life, Non-silicate, Non-borate, pretty blue color.

Dexcool is shit, it makes everything leak. Hate that stuff.

Change it every year just to get the sediments out of the cooling system. It really doesn't take that much time while you are changing the oil. It's good "quality time" spent with your bike.

I was a technician in VW dealerships during the Vanagon days. The factory coolant was ethylene glycol, and at that point, no european manufacturer had yet adopted any other coolant.
The Vanagon issue with coolant jacket leaks was caused by silicate deposits damaging the gaskets. There were aftermarket redesigned gaskets that eliminated that issue, but by then the boxer motor was replaced by the I-5 and the VR6. The solution was a coating of the surfaces with a silicone sealant, after carefully cleaning the sealing surfaces and using a dental pick to clean silicate deposits out of pits in the aluminum sealing faces.
