I just bought an 85 interceptor vf700 with 43,000 on the clock. The previous owner had the oil changed and the engine checked up on shortly before he sold it to me. According the the shop he took it to, the cam and everything else is still in very good condition. since buying the bike I have replaced the rear tire and I still need to purchase a sprocket set and chain. My question right now is what else I shoudl be checking on the make sure this bike runs as long as possible. Oh and any ideas on where I can find aftermarket exhaust pipes to replace the f1 pipe on it.

Sounds like your in good shape, I would want to inspect the cams, tensioners, and oil pressure,if it sounded good and ran well just ride it. Change the oil early and often. As far as pipes go it is going to be a bit of a hunt but they can be found here or on E-bay from time to time. Good luck.

oh mylanta. If you juse joined today that would be even funnier because I just joined today (wednesday).

Any suggestion as to weather I should go with an o-ring or an x-ring chain? I need a new chain by next season and dont know if the o-ring is just fine or if I should go x-ring. Also, should I just stick with the stock sprocket sizes? (this is my first bike if that makes a difference, I just started riding last week when I finally found the bike I wanted)

I am embarassed to say this, but I laid my bike down on saturday doing about 20-30 (although the gravel was better than launching into the marsh). No serious damage to me or the bike, just a few scrapes on my body, and a bruised ego. The front fairing on the bike got a little scrap that can be repainted ( I plane on taking the biek to a paint shop when I get the money and having the decals removed and redone in all paint), the left side turn signal stems are busted and the front signal will need replacing but they all still work. The biggiest thing that tickes me off is the fact that the clutch reservoir dented the tank:mad:. Is it possible to have the dent removed or am I basically going to be looking for a tank that I will probably never find? on note unrelated to this incident, I need a new right side, side cover. The mounting tab on the battery box and rear cowl are busted so the side cover fell off while going for a ride early saturday. I have checked ebay and it always seems the right side cover is always beat up, any clue on where I can get a decent one?

    Huck,

Check Suter's on the East side of Madison. I went there when I needed a coil for my bike, and they had one sitting on the shelf right on hand. I have a feeling they've parted more than one Interceptor, and I wouldn't be surprised if they had all the body parts you need. Good luck.

When I bought this bike, the previous owner gave me a complete exhaust system for an 86 vf700, Is it possible to just install the lower section of the exhaust without any modification (the part that the muffler is connected to). If I have to, I guess I could install everything, but that would be alot of work. Is this possible or should I just remove the mufflers and put them on my pipes?
