I caint afford a $400 corbin or sergent seat. so looks as if im going to have to refoam and leather mine (leather is dried and cracked)

is there any guides, or advice in doing this. shouldent be hard, just lay some foam and wrap around some leather and attach it at the bottom.

To get necessary foam material get a coat hanger and straighten it out. Then make a hook at the end and shove it in your ear. The gray material you pull out will make great foam material you're not using it anyway.

thanks, if anyone asked the question they would have given serious answers.

i know the basic premes. put foam on the seat, put lether on the foam and attach it at the other side.

im just looking for tips. type of foam, ways to attach leather, or other advice you wouldent know untill you have done it.

im thinking of trying to get some of the temper foam in the temperpedic beds, but i dotn know if you can obtain any without buying a whole bed.

I would eat top ramen before I would skimp on my machine, if you really wanna know, take it to your local auto upholstery shop, they will do it on the cheap, and if you are a REALLY cheap bastard, you can get some ideas from here: http://www.ducttapefashion.com/

Do a google search for temper foam or t-foam. You probably want 1/2" or thicker, maybe 2 layers of the thinner stuff. Get a sheet big enough to cover the seat and cut to fit. You can get pleather or vinyl really cheap at a local fabric shop and cut it to fit. A regular staple gun from a hardware store works fine with the stock seat. Use a little heat gun or hair dryer to soften the cover and stretch it over the seat, staple, trim, done.

ya, i looked into it. several hundred bucks. Iv wanted one for quite some time, but its just not going to happen untill this time next year. so redoing my stock seat will have to work till then. or at least will need to be done before my next big ride. i can do a couple hours on mine just fine.

i guess i just do not get the sagnificance, i asked a question, he answered it. (i havent read the how to yet, just skimmed it)

Check this site, I'm sure they have stuff thicker than 3/8". Nonadhesive T-Foam (Temper Foam) - Alimed

BLS used the t-foam stuff on his RC45, should be fine on the VFR.

As far as vinyl cover, I paid about $10 from a local fabric shop to re-do both of my VF's and I have enough left to do another 3-4 seats.

don't be mad sho..... this has been going on for A LONG time, he who is unnamed has been here before and asked the same innane questions topics and other crap........ so don't feel sorry for him just wish him well and remind him to take his seizure medicine...
and by the way this topic is searchable, as well as easy to figure out what kind of foam you would need to use. Its a simple process, really all it takes is a little bit of creativity and a steady hand to cut the foam...

Thanks Crusty. I can see the pattern with "he who must not be named" and what others like to reply to his many queries. I was more looking for what materials might have been used, what results were achieved and what costs I could expect. I'd love to have a Corbin seat, but too many other things keep eating up my available reserves... like having a daughter in her 2nd year of college!

shorawitz, I was going the memory foam route but learned it is too soft for long rides. It compresses too much and allows the pressure points of the seat frame to pinch through.
The after market saddle manufacturers have gone with firmer foam and changed the shape of the seat itself.
If you get the chance, take a close look at a stock seat and a Corbin or Sargent next to each other(like in Reg's saddle comparo write up).
The Sargent is lower over all, wider in the rear, etc to change the pressure points to relieve fatigue and numbness.

    Good luck.
