Pics are always a good way to contribute to a site so here are some from my '87 VFR700FII project. Going over the bike, giving it a good cleaning and inspecting/replacing parts as I go. Not too far from being road worthy.

Here is right after the very first soap and water wash:

Battery and compartment was in dire need of maintenance and cleaning. Previous owner did not have the overflow vent hose installed - big no-no!

Swapped out those awful stock rear turn signals for some cleaner looking Lockhart's:

New Pirelli rubber, front wheel got reinstalled today:

Here is a list off the top of my head of things that I am currently doing or plan on doing:

    -new tires
    -new Spider SLR grips
-new turn signals front and rear (flush mounts up front)
    -new spark plugs
-new rear brake rotor and pads
    -oil and filter change
    -new UNI air filter
-quick disconnect lead for battery tender
    -new clutch lever
    -new upper cowl and windscreen
-repair dent in fuel tank or replace w/ composite
-several other little bits, bolts, o-rings, etc.

Along with this is a LOT of cleaning. I get tired of it sometimes, but at the same time I'm not building a show bike, just a good solid rider. Also using the manual to perform all the other basic maintenance checks.

I'm really eager to get this beast back on the road. I'll try to add some more pics as I go.

    Thanks guys! :)

Actually the frame survived fairly well considering the acid leakage, which I'm very grateful for. There are just a few areas where it marred the black paint and whatnot, but nothing major.

I'll try to post new pics as I go. Aiming right now to have her on the road in January with a few finishing touches after that.

Nice work. You certanly are starting with a great bike. Be sure to save all the stock parts, though. Those early turn signals, mirrors, etc are going to increase in value for sure...

Sure. Got it in-stock through http://www.denniskirk.com , but I used their "beat it by a buck" deal and had them match Chaparral's price plus free shipping. I'm a new customer with Dennis Kirk, but so far they seem to have top notch service both online and over the phone. I also just used their price match guarantee to get an AWESOME price on a chain and sprockets!

Hey guys, thought I would update this thread with a couple pics. I finally got to ride my bike today! :thumb: It's running so sweet after overhauling the carbs. I can't believe how fast it is. Would definitely smoke my Z1 900.

I've been working on it since last November. Quite a few hurdles to overcome, but it has finally paid off. The mechanical stuff is basically done with a few odds and ends to finish here and there. I will be doing the cosmetic stuff next, but taking my time as I get the money.

A BIG thanks to the folks who run this site as well as all those who helped me get this far! :first:

Here are some pics from earlier today before I rode to work...

PS - I know Ferris wanted some burnout pics, these are boring pics, but will have to do for now.

    Nice jobb! Great looking bike.
How does the Pirelli Sport Demons perform? Is the rear a 140/70?

Thank keny. So far the Sport Demons are great. I haven't pushed them very hard, but just on my daily commute they are performing well. Yes the rear is a 140.

Allright, I can understand that you don't want to kill your new tire, but geez, at least a wheelie or a stoppie would be nice!!

Just kidding! Great looking bike. You are obviously enjoying it.

Most cool! I'll always have a warm spot for the White 700 (as it was the first VFR that I rode).

    Great project!:lever:

    White Diamond

Saved, there's an aluminum polish called white diamond for aluminum. I've been asked how I got my frame so well polished on my VFR and had people ask about the chrome on my Harley (it's aluminum).

It's so good that it probably takes years off your life (from it's toxisity), but, life is short. Look for this stuff, it works great!:lever:

Thanks fatso and welcome to the site. I really like my old V4 and there's lots more I plan on doing to it. For now I've gotten most of the mechnical stuff fixed so I'm just riding it daily and it running great. I've been sidetracked with other hobbies, but hope to get back to the VFR soon.

It's amazing how much you can get into when you start fixing up a bike... I just started on mine about two weeks ago... A buddy of mine is in school learning paint and autobody and needed a project for a grade so I was more than happy to help him out... Now that I'm getting the new paint I keep seeing things that either need replacing or cleaning so that they don't make the new paint look bad...

What did you use to get the motor so clean and shiney? Mine is pretty spotless but It's all dull.?
