The Associated Press: Motorcycle rider, 13, seriously injured at Indy

The latest reports are that Peter Lenz(13 years old) has passed away.

Peter has been an amateur racer for several years. He has enjoyed great success and overcome tragedy, only to be killed while racing today at Indy.

Peter just returned to racing from a horrible crash last year.

Godspeed, Peter.

this kid was a fantastic racer, may he win many more races on the tracks in heaven.

 

Hate it when people die, but if the gotta go, best they go doing something they love. God speed.

 

One of the three great up and coming American racers...tragic. Condolences to his dad and his family. His dad is a member of a local forum that I frequent and i'm sure he will be crushed.

Oh wow. I am really sorry to hear this. He was one of the young riders in "Twist of the Wrist 2" DVD.

Very talented. So sad.

Having been blessed and recently aquiring a 125GP bike to ride during track days. I can tell you all the two stroke world is a very small community. To say this has struck at the heart of many racers and that community would be an understatement.

God speed Peter.

I have several friends that have kids that race dirt bikes, one of my favorite sports to watch and one of the worst when they get hurt. A terrible thing. My prayers go out to the family .

My condolences to family and friends!

 

This is a sad story. I do not like the new style short track bikes either that have the shock mounted under the bottom of the frame where a rider can be hit by it.
Should NOT be allowed. The bottom of the frame should be completely smooth for that very reason.
And many racers have refused to race on some tracks when the condition is so poor and bumpy. Rossi fell 4 times! Does that tell you something?

I also feel sorry for the kid that hit him because the rest of his life he will have to remember it. I am a Viet Nam vet and some things stick with you and it makes things hard sometimes. Most of the time you can just keep busy and forget about it, but not all the time.

That kids parents might think about some counseling for him.

 

a talent like no other. I had the fortune to ride with him and will tell you that his skills were certainly otherworldly and he could have become America's next champion. This is Peter and me from last summer at superbike school.

I'll always remember the great story of how Peter came flying by you on his 125 while you were on the 999.

Seeing the hundreds of posts on his Facebook page and the many posts here and over at Bay Area Riders Forum is awesome.
People from all over the world have been following Peter and all have recognized his talent and character.

I wonder if it is possible to retire his number like they do for pro ball players?
