Well, it's been exactly a week, and after all the thinking I've done on this, I'm ready to relate it. Last week, on the spur of the moment, my 22 yr old son & I took a little trip into N. Ark, Eureka Springs. Rode down Thurs., went riding all day Fri. (490 miles), returned home Sat. morning. At the end of Fiday, 60 miles from base camp, going N on 21 hwy we had a very scary incident. We had had, to that point, a great day of riding. Miles of great curvy roads on the way to Push Mountain Rd (Hwy 341), then a high speed run up and down 341, and back the way we came. Anyway, on the way back I was riding the ZRX, and Andrew was on the Viffer ('99). I passed a mid 90's Buick, piloted by an older man (or woman). Next thing I know, the buick is only a couple of feet off my tail! So I roll it on and leave the Buick in the dust. I look in the mirror, and my son is passing the Buick, but the Buick swerves into his space, barely missing him. He gets around and the same thing, he/she is inches away from Andrews rear tire. He accelerates away, but the Buick keeps speeding up to speeds over 100mph! After about 15 miles of this high speed, high risk tag, we come to a RH corner with some oncoming traffic, a glance in the mirror, I see the Buick in the passing lane, trying to pass my son, I slow down & hug the inside and Andrew passes me followed closely by the Buick. At this point, on the inside of the corner, there is a large gravel parking lot. Andrew ducks into it and manages to get stopped, and I pull in with him. Wow, that was scarey and my son is beside himself with rage. I think at that moment he could have commited murder. His reaction almost scared me more than the roadrage! Anyway, I realize that by passing that car I could have gotten myself or my son killed. I don't know how you can predict this stuff, we'd been passing cars all day, with no bad reactions. I guess I've learned a lesson, but how would you know you are going to enrage someone with a simple pass? I'm so thankful that my son & I survived, and we lived to tell the tale. Be careful out there:frown:

Thanks for sharing..............Next time just pull over and let them pass. Your life and your son life are worth more than those @#@#@#$#@#$$ on the road. Think before you act, one little mistake can ruin your whole life. Ride safe and enjoy the time with your son be safe out there.

    Cheers

I had the feeling if we'd have pulled over, we would have been rammed, 21 N doesn't have very much of a shoulder. The gravel lot was really the 1st chance to get off the road.

scary. I've seen similar here in the mountains of Colorado. We'll get people who drive slow but don't want to be passed. When you try to pass, they'll speed up and/or swerve. Sounds like a good case for carrying a pocket full of BB's or marbles.

I would of tried to get his plate and after stopping called them in. Done it before, and the officer went to his house to have a chat with him. At least the officer went to someone's house. Don't know about any follow up on what happened.

He (we'll just say he was from out of the country) was tailgateing me while was beside another motorcycleist on a two lane city road. It had just gone from a 4 lane to a two, and he just came on over....

That's a horrible incident, but luckily a safe outcome. It's already bad, but even worse because it was your kid. Glad yous guys are both safe.

I would have had a very hard time controlling my anger and may have followed the asshole until he/she/it stopped. If he was packing we would be on a level playing field. Then I would have...

No way to know who's a nut out there. When I get a rampant tailgater, I flash my brakes like crazy to let them know I'm not happy, sometimes with a 'back off' hand gesture (no flickin' 'em The Bird - don't want to aggravate them). If they don't back off, I find a safe place to pull off and let them get by. My one and only accident during 20+ years of commuting on bikes was due to a bad driver I should have simply gotten clear of.

Glad to hear you're both OK.

I once found myself thinking that an old Indian might be a good bike to have, just because their throttle is on the left and I'm right-handed...

Glad you and your son are allright, mikromo. There are definitely some people out there that are beyond salvaging, and sooner or later most of us have to deal with one of them.

I kinda had this happen today as well. Was cruisin' in the carpool lane, and this F150 came up on me so he could get a whiff of which grade of petrol I use. I hammered on the throttle and left him in the dust, but he soon caught back up to me after I backed it off. We played this game for a few miles until I came upon a pack of slow cars which I passed and left my annoyer to deal w/them.

Stuff like that happens, some people in cars just hate bikers. Some people wait for bike to come fast to crossroads and then suddenly accelerate to road forcing you to brake hard.

If you pass someone nicely on safe place I see no reason to get angry and try to kill someone.

Good to hear that you and your son are ok.

I never understand why some people get so angry when you pass them.

Glad you and your son got out of that one ok. I really don't understand some people. Unfortunately, I got rammed into two years ago ("Felony Hit & Run") and my right leg/ankle took the brunt of the idiot's stupidity & rage - and then the guy fled the scene (no plate or witnesses)! Even though I know your guy (and mine) are random dumb-fucks that should have been drowned at birth, don't let them stop you from enloying the thrill of riding. But, like you I'm sure, you'll never trust anyone on the road again. Maybe a good thing. Take care...

Crazy encounter. I am glad you both are ok. Being in SoCal, I lane-split everyday coming home from work. 99% of the time people are fairly cool, and many even move over so I have more room to get by....however, once in awhile I get what I call "resistance." Resistance is some assclown who thinks he is captain of the highway. One instance in recent memory a Suzy Burgman was splitting in front of me in the car pool lane, and a Can-A-Tuna was behind me. As we were splitting, the Burgman tried to pass a minvan and the minivan veered quick and as far to the right as he could almost hitting the car in the next lane. The Burgman dude was shocked I could tell, and probably figured he just swerved to miss something. Well, burg dude tried to get by again, and the minivan driver when nuts and almost slammed him into the car next to him. It was that close. The burgman rider finally got by, but he literally almost got creamed by a millimeter. I mean, this guy was out for blood. Ok, now it is my turn. I ride in line behind him for a sec, trying to make him think I am just gonna chill. Then I veered to the right to pass after 20 seconds or so, then he veers hard right to block me, and as he does, I am already leaning hard to the left, and I zoomed around him. He saw what I was doing at the last minute, and swerved almost all the way to the highway divider, but alas, I, the demon bastage (to him) had gotten by. I looked back, and the Can-A-Tuna was trying to get by, but this was not a day for the Tuna. The little glimpse I saw the nut was swerving at him, and tried to squeeze him and he backed off and stayed back. Had he tried again, the Tuna might have been added to the menu of the whacked out mini-van driver. Nobody likes that kinda tuna....

In all of this adrenaline pumping excitement, I forgot the plate. Probably to no avail anyways, as it would be my word against his unless I had another witness, or someone else called to complain. Even then, I doubt he would be anywhere around by the time the cops were after him....if they ever had a chance to.

    Anyways....fun stuff. :hangme:

that sux. I'd probaby have slammed the brakes hard then hammered the gas if he looked like he was gonna hit me... but if he didn't hit me I'd keep slowing down until I got him slow enough to have a chat with my armored gloves...

ok, not really... that's what I'd like to do... Hell I'd like to hit the guy for you...

I've hit mirrors with my hands before, I've rapped on windows, etc. that stuff aggravates me.
