    First is to get rid of the stupid message suggesting I make my first post. So here it is, I'm in Austin and have been riding since 1990. First bike was an EX500 for about one year. I then felt I became an expert :tongue: and my next bike was, and continues to be, an 89 FJ1200 purchased in 91. Now, considering something more modern and refined.:cool:

    Second is to find out some differences between the 99 and 00 models. Seems like the 5th gen is the way to go since it weighs less & keeps the cam gears. But that is from the VFR-101 curiculum. The 00 had some weight gain for emissions garbage in the exhaust path. Does getting rid of that put me way out of the fuel mapping capabilities and create a limp home mode? If so, would a Power Commander fix that?

    And not to be a wet blanket, will there be a 7th generation:smile: ; or have the original colors come back as paying homage and a farewell gesture?:mad:

    Man, from an EX500 to a FJ1200; that must've been an interesting change to get used to.

    As for the 5g, I like that body style more than the 6g plus it has fuel injection and geared cams. Dunno what particular emission bits it has but a Power Commander does fix fuel map problems.

    As for the 7g, that question has been debated here quite a bit and except for one magazine article and lots of rumors, nobody is really sure what the story is. Except Honda, and they ain't talkin'.

    I don't know if I'm just oblivious to some things , or if it's because of the variety of bikes that I have ridden.

    When I was 14-16 I rode a Harley 45 trike chop, an Indian Enfield 750 (now in Barber Museum), raced a 250 Elsinore, and my regular riders were a CL450 for day to day or a H1 Kawasaki for street racing.
    They are just different flavors to me.

    An EX 500 is pretty quick, a FJ 1200 quicker, but they're just bikes.

    Maybe my preception is warped by passage of time!:spider:
    As for the next generation, a V% 800 would be muy cool!

    The Gen 5 VFR is a great choice of bike, in its time many publications rated as easily the best Sports/Tourer with even a few rating it as the Worlds best road bike. ( have one review somewhere marking it down complaining the bike was too good ?? )

    As far as emission additions go the Gen 5 Mk2 gains a cat and o2 Sensors over the Mk1, but it also gains an uprated ECU mapping so HP is not lost and its fuel economy a lttle better, any weight gain is irrelevant.

    Usefull improvments on the Mk2 over the Mk1 are the thin stemmed Mirror arms and HISS ( Hondas Ignition Security ) and they also tweaked the fork internals for a slightly improved ride. (?)

    Don't think there is much else major between them, they both have the same solid feel, are supprisingly quick with neutral handling and superb build quality. Personally would go for the best condition example when looking.

    Welcome to the group. Others here are more knowledgeable about the 5th gen than me so I will let them chime in on that part. As for a 7th gen....well, we'll just have to wait and see. Rumor has it that 07 is the last year for the VFR, but I won't believe that until I see it. It could also be that the VFR badge will be dropped and it will just be an Interceptor, as well as maybe undergo some changes. It's hard to say with manufacturers. Sometimes they fuel a rumor to boost sales.

    i ride a 5g and i like it, but I rode brian's 4g the other day and i really liked it, too. it was weird riding it cause I could tell they were kind of the same in looks and related, but I could feel the differences, too. It's kinda like slleping with your wife's sister, I think. (not that I would know) ((she does have some hot sisters, though))

    Off Topic .... Reg are any of your wives sisters single? ..... :focus: I Liked riding reg71 gen 5 beifly the other day.... Felt lighter, and like a tons more torque with that power commander on it....I loved the wheely that rose up the front end with just a small lip in the road! Cant do that on my 4 gen.... Oh and Reggie was making fun of my foamy soft old man coushy grips :p

    Forgot to mention some folks use a PC2 and O2 eliminators to smooth the power delivery but as I'm happy with my 5th Gen mk1's standard fueling and havn't added anything other than synchronizing the starter valves last service.

    On the Gen 7 queestion, don't know but I heard from a fellow VFR'er whose mothers cousins sisters husbands uncle who works as a cleaner for Hondas main grommet maker who says that there will be 2 VFR variants for 2008/2009, one VFR1000ST and one sepparate VFR1000RR Sports model....who knows most wish he is right.
