    hello all

I have an old fuel tank that has been sitting for about 7 years with what was once...fuel in it. not a lot, but enough. (1986 VFR700)

I have removed tank and all hoses, and can't seem to get anything out of it on any fuel selector position. There is rust and probably other stuff in their too. perhaps something has clogged the fuel outlets?

Well, you can dump a half gallon of Acetone or Laquer thinner in the tank and slosh it around. Then let it sit awhile and slosh around some more. At some point it's going to eat through that shellac and spill out.

Then order the Caswell Epoxy kit, follow directions to the T and coat the inside of the tank.

or you can pull the fuel level sensor..... that will help......even A wet vac will get it out but be careful of static electricity igniting the fumes........... (after it gets into the vac)

You could take some nuts and bolts and stick them in there and agitate em around to knock some of the rust off. There is a product called Kreem, It has 3 parts to it, its an acid etcher, cleaner and lastly an epoxy. Logic being you etch the tank with their acid, use the cleaner before you dump their epoxy mess in there. I would just leave it etched and keep a full tank of gas in the future. Neat way to get rid of any residual petrol fumes is to hold the tank with its opening up to a running exhaust pipe, car or bike take your pick. What comes out of the exhaust will nuetralize the petrol fumes. Worked for me, I welded a couple of gas tanks and havent blown myself up.

The pet cock is half way up the tank and will not gravity feed past that point, jump the fuel pump and pump it out. Then maybe put a bit of good fuel in and jump the pump and pump the fresh through it to flush it out. That is what I do.

The manual shows you how, disconnect the relay wire(yellow/green) and the fuel pump connector and jump the fuel pump to itself black to black/blue wire.
