As many of you know my VF500 is up for sale. I am selling it and my parts "inventory" as a package. However, in negotiations I may end up witholding a few things, one of which may be the seat cowl. I would like to know what kind of interest there would be and to get a general sense of what people might offer for it if I sell it separately. They are quite rare. See the pictures on the first post of this thread:

    http://vfrworld.com/forums/1st-2nd-generation-1983-1989/29875-interceptor-500-low-budget-project.html

    Notes:

    - You will obviously need to paint it to match your bike. The black marks are just decals with no clearcoat over them. They should come right off.
    - You will need to sand out the few scuffs on it and patch the to small holes where the previous owner hooked his mini-bungee cords attachments. To attach it properly using the proper mounting holes you need to pierce a small hole in each side of the seat where the metal flange is in the seat base and then bolt the cowl on. This is how I now have it installed (properly!) I will provide the bolts washers and the spacer that I am using now.
    - There is a very small crack on one of the mounting tabs that can be easily repaired. It is only visible from up very close and is not at risk of loosing the tab. The plastic is very flexible.
    - There is no lock where there once was. I assume it used to latch under the rear grab rail. This nickel sized hole should be filled while prepping the cowl if you want a better finished product

How much would you think it would be worth? I won't hold anyone to it if I do put it up for sale.

I've seen those cowls in terrible condition go for well over $125...depends on the buyer.

I'm far more interested in hearing how much you want for that 4-1 exhaust...

That Hindle would need some work to clean up the can weld job. If I were to keep it I would pick up a suitably sized slip on from some other bike, have the poorly welded one removed and have the replacement properly welded on.

I guess I do have the option of putting the stock headers and the Gemini slip-ons on. How much do you think the Hindle in that shape would be worth?

Hard to put a value on it...I'd be willing to "restore" it but I'd bet others would as well. Maybe start an auction at $75 and see where it goes...it's a very rare piece.

They are pretty beat up. The baffles are rusted, there are scuffs on the cans, etc. I don't think that it would be a big job to cut out the rusted baffles and tack weld new ones in place. They should be repacked anyway. They are probably workable with the rusted baffles, just not optimum. I will post some pics.

Again, not sure if I will be separating the parts from the bike. It depends on the offer I get up here. If I do sell parts separately, I might be more apt to sell the slip-ons than the Hindle because it would be a lot of work to change out the rear headers back to stock I think. I have not looked to see how I could even get access to the inside header bolts with the engine in the frame. Anyone know?

Here are some pictures of the Gemini Slip-ons. I had a close look at them and the rust on the baffles is surface only. I think these can be refreshed nicely with a new coat of high-temp aluminum colored paint, a repack, a bit of rust scraping on the baffles and perhaps some high temp black paint on the baffles for those who may like to peak into the holes!

Depending on what people think these are worth I will either sell the slip-ons or the Hindle. I am leaning towards the slip-on because I don't know if I want to go through the hassles of swapping out the rear headers back to stock. How much do think these Gemini might fetch?

I will let everyone know. There is considerable interest in the Hindle. I will decide which I am selling tomorrow.

If I do sell the Gemini I will probably restore them first (pull apart, clean, repack, paint, etc.).

I have never used these slip ons. They came with a parts bike that I bought.

Looks like the buyer will need a mid pipe to make the connection to the collector...

You're right. I hadn't considered that yet. Unfortunately I did not get included with the boxes of other parts.

If/when you sell the Hindle, I will have a complete stock system you can have, as soon as I pull it off and install my Mac 4-2x2

I have to go to Ottawa in a few weeks for some Inline Merc Outboard service so I could even deliver it.

As noted above, a mid-pipe would be needed to use these slip-ons. I believe that a muffler shop would be able to custom cut some piping for this, but I have not looked into it.

I still have not made up my mind which I am selling now that things are more complicated with the slip-ons. If the bike doesn't sell soon, I may put a stock exhaust back on and sell both the Hindle and the slip-ons.
