As critical as the exhaust is to performance on a VFR. I can't be an easy thing to plumb a turbo without giving up so much power that you would need the Turbo just to break even. On a car its not too bad because of the available space. Might need to modify some fairings.
Second thought - Think of the heat load a turbo would add to a bike that is already infamous for running hot. Have to have lots of cool oil to keep the turbo from burning its seals.
Don't let me dissuade you though, I'd love to see it when you finish. I just think its some pretty big engineering, but you may be just the guy to figure it out. Good Luck

well, being that this is a project, not somehting needed, i might not end up having the cash to put into it since there are more important things that i do need. but i think i will try this some day. hopefully not too long from now.

    1) no exhaust routing = easier install
    2) since its driven from the engine, the SC makes power right away = no 'turbo lag' e.g. the time it takes for the turbo to spool up enough to start making power
    3) someone already did the thinking and made a kit = easier install
    4) supercharger whine to add to the gear whine

    just to name a few

I would, but then again we tend to turbo everything that comes in our driveway from cars to trucks, quads... everything! And BTW the appropriate sized turbo will pretty much eliminate any lag.

I think it was the Porsche 959 that was the first "production" automobile to use two different size turbochargers; one small, one big. The small one spooled up quickly to eliminate lag, the second one provided a lot of boost on the top end. Very elegant and expensive solution. It was also fuel injected, which is really what made turbochargers (and superchargers) more practical for street use.

But to answer the original question; no. Too much work, too much money, too much hassle. The VFR is a pretty well balanced bike for what it is intended to be. If I had nothing better to do with my time, had the money to do it, and just wanted to have a turbocharged VFR, maybe. Turbo location and exhaust plumbing would be a real headache, unless you didn't care about cornering clearance or speed bumps...

good point shorty. I guess i'm just used to all the 'cager squids' that try to make 700hp out of a 1.8 liter motor.

Ok, let me be a bit more specific, i do not know if one exists, but if so, and lets assume its not a freaking 5k price.

if there was a well built turbo for the vfr that did not need modifications, to the fairing for example. would you get one?

like i said, i dono if there is one, and if there is its probably not cheap, but im just courious.

The only redeeming feature of this thread is that Gopher got Shorty to come out of hiding.
