Someone once told me that if i kept riding 100+ miles per day average that i would soon start to hate riding. what do you think?

i will say that i do hate traveling. but its not really vehicle specific. I still love riding and caint wait till the michigan ride at the end of the month (1 rectifier and insurance plan later that is)

I commute to and from work whenever they're not calling for rain (or snow). For me it is 60 miles round trip. I've been doing it for almost 20 years now. Taking the bike beats the car any day and never gets old.

I have a pretty short commute to work but I take the bike whenever and where ever possible. The more you ride the more you'll love it, until snow falls and you can't ride for a week or two, then you'll be hatin life, damn addiction!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My longest daily commute was 150 miles round trip (lasted about 1 year), and I primarily used the SV. The only thing I didn't like was riding when I was tired at the end of the week. The stock seat was a complete mismatch for my backside, but that's the only bad memory I have.

I recently started commuting 40 miles round trip and the bike easily wins out over the cage. It does dampen my enthusiasm to get out over the weekend for joy rides though. One thing I plan on changing is going back to the stock exhaust, love the sound of the TBros on leisure rides but it's a bit much for me and the neighbors at 6am.

But yes, I still like riding. Even commuting I'm still learning how to ride better; watching for hazards, distracted drivers, not getting distracted myself, keeping my right hand under control & not riding too aggressively, etc. Always new lessons to be learned.

I've been commuting for about 2 years now and I get really depressed when I have to drive the car. The only time I don't enjoy it as much is when there's been an accident and it's gridlock on a 100 deg day.

I commute 35 miles round trip trough some of the worst traffic on the West coast (I-80 thru Berkeley to San Francisco). It easily is a hour and a half trip one way in a car but only 25 minutes on the bike. I ride rain or shine all year long and I never get tired of riding. Family duties are the only things that keep me from riding on the weekends as much as I would like to. I love giving the neighbors a wake up call at 6:30 in the morning with the Leo Vince exhaust..if I'm up, everyone else should be too! :heh: I try not to rev it up and keep the RPM's low until I'm down the block...

I had a good chuckle when I read that SilverSurfer. ^^^ Brought a BIG smile to my face.

I've got an old Ducati 900ss that's equipped with D&D pipes. They're made in Fort Worth Texas. You know the old saying "Everything's bigger in Texas"? Well I'm guessing that everything's also louder in Texas too because those D&D's are big, bold, and boomy.
My 900ss is a cold-blooded beast in the morning. That little pig absolutely flat refuses to hold a steady idle unless she's warmed up for at least a good four to five minutes. Which means setting the choke and letting the motor rip away at about 2800-3000 revs or so. Any lower than that and the motor will just sputter and die. You can just imagine what a racket that makes. Once she's good and warmed up,my "baby girl" is raring to go.
I try to at least show some respect for my neighbors too,so I keep the garage doors closed while the bike is warming up and I'll short-shift while I'm rolling through the neighborhood.
It never fails to make me laugh though when I'm walking down the driveway at night to lock the garage up and my neighbor Pat will stick his head out the door and matter-of-factly say "You took the Ducati to work this morning didn't you."
I'll look over with a big shit-eating grin on my face and act all surprised and say "Yeah, how did you know?"

I commute 100 miles round trip every day (that I can). If I take the Cage is an exercise in frustration and not long after I leave I'm sure I'm not doing my blood pressure any favors.

On my bike I enjoy my commute and have never not done so. Even this morning when I realized I had left my Hoody at work on Friday and I had to ride into work with just my T-Shirt with my Air Mesh 2 jacket (as my jacket liner is packed up somewhere) and it was 52deg outside and misting rain due to the fog. Froze my ass off coming in but still enjoyed every minute of it and NEVER even thought to take the cage.

I would have to question the rider who gave you that advise. I have a friend like him......you would call him a garage queen.

Your last line nailed it Bravnik LOL!

I was suprised the question was posed in the first place.

Any day riding is better than in a car/truck.van, etc.

I commute ~70 miles round trip. My main motivation was time. In So Cal, you ride in pairs in your car or you take your 2-wheeler! My normal commute was 80-130 minutes depending on day of week (Friday going East or near the ocean in So Cal is a nightmare.) With the VFR, the trip only takes 35-45 mins.

I used to live back East. Back there, people talk about travel in distance. In Cal, we talk in time. I figure I'm saving 250 hours/year which I can spend w/the family. The people who really matter!

But commuting still can't hold a candle to the twisties!

NorCal is the same. You have to come during the winter to see CA green. During the summer it's all brown and ugly. Strange I know but you're talking the west coast which is the definition of strange - Just come to San Fran if you want to see REALLY STRANGE.

I'm pretty sure he is talking each way. My commute to work in the cage is about an 1:15 to 1:30 but on the bike it's 45min to 1 hour. Each way that is.

Ah Lord, you give them eyes, but they cannot read. I did say ~70 miles "round trip." Soooo, 1/2 of ~70 = ~35. "Here endeth the lesson!"

Riding to work is the only way to arrive there in the proper frame of mind for me. I commute 60 miles per day but nearly always find a long/winding route home in the evening. I have the advantage of no kids at home and a wife that works evenings so I can ride "guilt free". I have to admit to being a weenie and riding the Goldwing when it's really cold or wet but on a good day the VFR is always my ride of choice. When the weekend arrives I can't wait to go tear it up but usually take one of the more aggressive bikes.
