Tonight I took the bike out and rode about 7 miles, pulled up to the stop sign and the bike dies. I am thinking battery from the get go. So I do the dummy test, run button is on. Also I have fuel in the tank its in neutral with the stand down. It makes a clicking noice from the solenoid I believe. The rectifier is really f-n hot as well. I am thinking one of those things MAY be bad. Oh please help mighty fellow VFR riders, I am willing to listen. Thanks!

Anything else may cause it not to crank over? I put the start button and it clicks for about 5 seconds and then stops. I put a WTB ad up for a r/r. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the battery is bad. It is possible the R/R fried it. You need to have the battery tested and get a voltometer to test the R/R output.

charge the battery then take it to auto zone or whatever auto parts store there is. they can do a load test and deturmine if the battery is bad. but if your rr went out, then it wont charge the battery, the clicking you herd was because of there not being electricity in the battery. doesent neccessarryaly mean that the battery is bad, a good battery will do that when its dead.

if your strapped for cash you can get a fin type r.r. on ebay for around 60 bucks. its not goign to be as good of quality as a 115 dollar one, but itl get by for a while. search around here and you can find websites that sell good aftermarket ones for 115 ish.

(UPDATE) Well I took off my battery last night and found a small bit corrision around a terminal. I went to Wal-Mart and bought a new battery (50.00). Took it to a friends house to charge it so after work I am going to pick it up and put it on the bike. So to test to see if its charging just connect a meter to the battery to see if the voltage is a constant?

Search function not working I suppose.... Literally, no less than 1 billion threads on charging issues and testing.

use a volt meter and check voltage at the battery while running. Fully charged battery at idle would show around 12-13v. at 5000rpm, you should read 14volts.

should the 2 wires from the r.r. both have voltage, or just one of them?

Welcome to the "R/R Club". Type in Regulator in the Advanced Search box
in the upper right hand corner of this page.
This will save you lots of wasted time.
    Good luck ~

Well I put the brand new battery in, tested the voltage at idle and at 5k. It was't climbing when reved. I have an old RR of my CBR 600 and put it on. When I installed that one at 5k it was 13.71 volts. So I think I found my issue.

    Gosh darn R/R
LOL yep you're on the right track. My findings are this with a fresh battery hit the starter with 1/2 choke for a fast idle, right of the bat if you have the tester on it before you hit the starter you should see around 12.v something, then right after you hit the starter and she fires off it should on say like a 1500rpm rpm idle see 14.+v something, no need to rev the piss out of it, once it's in charging mode it doesn't change no matter what the Rs are. then as the RR works it's magic it will slowly come down around 13.v and stay put. IMO this is no place sorry to say to skimp, go to Ricks and get their RR It's worth every penny.

On another note, take a good look at the plug end of the wire harness that goes into the RR, if you see any corrosion at all, and I mean any, you need to get it good and clean, what I have found is over time that starts to break down the charge circuits connection and slowly eats away at the RR. in my case I went and got a new plug, didn't trust it, once that was in place It never gave an once of trouble over the next 20K
