Anyone out there ever change a kilometer-based odometer to miles on your VFR? If so how expensive/complicated was it? Can it even be done?

Bottom line, State of NC is telling me that my German-manufactured '98's odometer must be converted to miles in order for it to be considered "safe" enough for registration in this state. TOTALLY RIDICULOUS!!!! They also want a "clearance memo" from the EPA stating that the bike meets fed emissions standards, and I am to keep this with the bike at all times.

Sheesh. Any advice (other than registering it in another non-anal state)?

Don't know about converting the Gen 5. On the Gen 6 it is a push botton affair so it may be the same on the gen 5. Got to love those governement types don't you.

    kph odometer

If it's any help, I will buy your "KPH" instrument console to help you to finance a replacement "MPH" setup. I will be importing two US VFR800's (1x1999 & 1x2000) into New Zealand next May, if you want to wait that long, I will just do a swap.

    Where are you located?

    Shards,

    I'm in Fayetteville, NC.

If I end up goinf that route, you will be the 1st to know. (*which I imagine it will be cost prohibitive, so probably not).

Grinder....I've pushed every button I can find. Can't seem to find the "right one" if there is one. I believe a conversion of some sort is required.

If it IS only the matter of pushing a button, guess I am looking like a total doof right now....
