    Hello all,

Soon to be a new owner of a VFR. I will be picking it up shortly on a trailer and have some questions about towing it (just being cautious).

I have four (4) 300lb strength ratcheting tie downs (900lb break strength) to tow it.

    Couple questions:
    1) Will this strength tie down work?
    2) What are the optimal areas to attach the tie downs?
    3) Any other tips you can give me.

Thanks guys, looking forward to being part of the Interceptor community!

i use the handle bars and the passenger peg as tiedown points. make sure you compress the both ends while you strap it down. and do Not put it on the centerstand. good luck and welcome!

For any sort of hauling (trailer, flat bed tow truck, pickup) this "choker" as I call it is invaluable for a good solid tiedown point and ease of use.

    Display Products.

When I was towing I used to use this and two rachet straps to tie down bikes all the time, didn't even need to secure the rear. For longer than just a little about town I'd tie down the rear too though. Otherwise what Madd said is good, but you only want to compress the suspension about half way, otherwise you risk blowing out the forks from constant over compression.

Canyon Dancer Inc. I have one and have used it quite a few times, makes tying down the bike very easy.

Simple, I'd need to register it first to ride legally and obtain a plate, and no, I can't take his plate. If that wasn't bad enough, its 500miles away and the forecast is rain the entire way up the day I'm getting it.

The canyon dancers and the other products seem great but I'm trying to keep costs down, will tie downs work without them as suggested on the first post?

    Thanks again for any help.

They will work without the cross ties, but it is easier on the bike with them. Nobody around that you can just borrow some maybe? That's how I "acquired" mine. But for about $30.00 that isn't bad.

Canyon Dancer is 29.99 at Cycle Gear. It is worth the investment, saves wear on bodywork.

Lots of dudes project or think everyone should do as they do. Nice answer about the reason for the trailer.
Your tiedowns should hold just fine. The advice on how to use what you have is spot on.

I'm sorry, I failed to mention that using just tie-down's WILL do the job. It did seem, however, that our new member was looking for good suggestions for easily and securly strapping down a bike to a trailer. If I wanted to "project", I would have suggested he get one of these

I went down to get my VFR with 300lb straps but I stopped at a Walmart and grabbed 900lb ones with a 2K break strength. I admit I was paranoid but for the $20 or 30 I decided to grabbed the heavier ones `just in case`

Canyon dancer on the front, and tied the rear down by the passenger pegs. Other than loosing my left turn signal and license plate on the trailer we made it home from Virginia back to Canada with out any issues.

Dude just paid out a pocketfull for a new bike and probably the straps he mentioned, which unless they are crap, should work fine. I would suggest a tube of Liquid Nails or some of those Velcro dots you can get at WalMart. All the dudes going to Sturgis use these. No riding involved.. ;)

Do they make this for a VFR? I only saw them for CBRs and a few other Hondas.

If you saw our used bike prices up here you'd see it wasn't dedication but being after a much better deal than buying locally. If I did it again I'd have planned it better and bought when it was warmer, it actually snowed the weekend I went to pick it up so riding home was out lol. Besides we took the explorer so the wife and kids could take a side trip to Grove City PA to hit the big mall there and do some shopping.
