I have an '01 VFR 800 which has never given me a problem.Recently after starting which it does first go it has run for 5 minutes or so then stops.Once stopped I cannot restart it.Yesterday I did a full service after which it ran perfectly. I was able to stop and restart it without a problem. It started today and once I stopped it it would not restart.

The battery is new and the engine cranks over. Can you give me any ideas.

    Hey Stumpy,

I would be checking the basics 1st like fuel pressure and spark 1st. If they are OK maybe look at a dodgy fuel pump relay or loose connections to the fuel pump or relay. How long after does the engine restart after dying? Does the engine misfire before cutting out? Need as much info as possible: hot/cold, idling/ accel etc. I know this sounds stupid but is there enough fuel in the tank- the fuel gauge could be lying to you......let us know your results.

    Cheers,
    Navman

Thanks for your suggestions Navman. I have checked fuel pressure and spark. Both are ok. Have not checked the connections but will do so. It will start and run for 5 minutes or so without a problem. Each time it has happened I have given it a rev just before it stopped. I believe it is a fuel thing. I checked the fuel first thing thinking perhaps the gauge was wrong, but there is plenty in it. The engine doesn't misfire under acceleration. It's weird. Last time it took 24 hours before I could restart it. Maybe I got some dodgy fuel. This has only happened since I last filled up. Each time it has died after starting has been around 8/8:30am in reasonably cool weather. Do you know if these have a fuel filter?
Thanks again for your suggestions. I'll let you know what I find.
    All the best,
    Stumpy
