Yesterday I change my oil for the first time and I filled with new oil until it was near the top line on the level window. Well I rode the bike today about 60 miles and when I got home I checked the oil level window and it was over the top line. Is this normal or do I need to drain some oil? Might it go down as the engine cools? I never had this happen on any of my other bikes. Thanks for any advice.

Did you do the measurements while the bike was on the center-stand?

I would drop it down to the mid point. I try to keep the level in the middle between the lines for this reason. Overfilling is just as bad as not enough oil. Can cause significant damage to seals and performance.

With engine at operating temp, it should be at the upper level. Obviously when the engine cools it will drop. Also make sure you let it settle once the engine is stopped before checking.

Thanks for the help. I checked the oil level this morning and it had not changed so I went ahead and drained it down to where is was level with the top line. I'll keep my eye on it though.
