vf 500 exhaust help

alright im new to bikes n wat is a 4-1 exhaust n im looking to gettin better exhaust i dont like the stock exhaust for vf500 86

alright i seen most of slip on are sold as one and vf500 has 2 muffler wondering did any1 ever change it to a single exhaust and if u did tell me how n how much

and is any1 sellin a slip on exhaust used or anything

last thing will i be able to use and other bike exhaust because i seen a few on craiglist

Slip-ons are fairly easy to find...the full 4-1 Hindle is the White Buffalo you seek.

 

like mob said the hindle system is very hard to find good luck in your search try ebay & craigslist.org

alright when i look for a slip on it ask me for wat bike which one should i choose because they dont have vf500 lol

 

I doubt you can find any NEW aftermarket exhaust options for the VF500.

You need to look for used stuff. Like Matt said, on Ebay, craigslist, wreckers etc etc.

If you don't like stock your options are (From worst choice to Best choice):

-Gut the stock exhaust:
Don't do this. Why'd I even mention it? :crazy:

-Full Custom:
Get an exhaust place to fabricate something and you supply a muffler.
This is costly and the chances they actually design so it doesn't hurt performance isn't good.

-Slip-ons:
They are the easiest but do nothing for performance. Some even say they hurt performance.
I had F1r slip-ons on my '86 VF500 and I loved the sound.

-Full Aftermarkeft exhaust:
You can get a 4-2 or a 4-1. As Mobtown said the Hindle 4-1 is the one everyone wants.
With a full Aftermarket you'll need a bit of carb work to compensate.

Thanks for the heads-up on that auction. I check ebay all the time for slipons/headers/etc, never saw that one, because the seller spelled "exhaust" wrong

I've never heard of the maker before...be sure to give us the skinny once it arrives. Full photo spread and a sound clip please!

 

They have been around 30 years or so, they do car and bike exhaust. Looks like they are going to re-make some older systems as well, a link on their front page is asking for donor bikes. No old VF models on their list though...

Those ebay ones I just won send both rear exhaust to the right, both front to the left side. Looks like I'll lighten the bike by quite a bit, no more big collector and lighter pipes/bafffle deals.

Yeah I'll break out the HD video cam for comparisons before/after!!

You need to be patient if you want to find aftermarket pipes for these bikes. Honda made this motor for three years ONLY. Only a few companies made exhaust for them, and they all stopped making them a LONG time ago.

I started looking as soon as I got my vf500, that was exactly one year ago. I JUST found the ones I wanted, 4-2 with headers and pipes. You can find slipons once in a while here or on ebay, but the good condition ones go fast and they go for a LOT. I was outbid multiple times on Cobra F1 cans, good condition ones go for $200+++ which is more than I was(or most people are...) willing to pay.

If you see something on ebay or someone here offers up a set, you need to jump on em.....

Only headers made for your bike will fit your bike.
