Hey chaps, i now have 3000 kms on my vfr800 vtec and am over the moon with it apart from the brakes,by this i mean they tend to make a bit of a binding or rumbling noise when slowing down quickly and seem to suffer from brake fade a bit. I'm not sure if it's normal as the bike is a bit heavier than my old zx636 kawasaki but i never suffered this with the Kawasaki or any other bike i've had . Has anybody else come acroos this or does any one have any thoughts at all, before i take it back to the dealer to check it out. Thanks Ian
I never experienced any noise while my breaks were stock but I did notice some fading and a general lack of stopping power under heavy (emergency) breaking. If memory serves this problem began to occur around the 3000 mile range. At that point I switched out the OEM pads for EBC's, which have made a noticable difference. The initial grab is stronger and the breaking stays even or more consistent throughout the slow down. I can't be certain if the bike actually stops any faster than it would have with OEM pads but it definately feels like it does. I have more confidence on corner entry than I ever did with stock.
Thanks for the reply Havcar,i'm going to take it to the dealer on Monday and see what they say. I'll let you know their thoughts.
High carbon rotors, braided stainless lines, top o' the line fluid, super bleed, EBC Extreme pads. FIXT.
Mine was prone to give a chattering noise and feal when very hot for a few thousand miles. Stopped many times to inspect because my ass puckered but never found a problem and it has not done it for quite some time. Always at a dead stop and hard on the brakes.
How hard are you braking? The only time I experience any noise, or anything resembling brake fade is when the ABS kicks in. ABS usually has an unmistakable noise, and it will feel similar to brake fade as it actually allows your wheels to keep turning regardless of how hard you pull on the brakes. Could be that you're a little too heavy on the rear brake. I would think that as the rear wheel tries to lock up it may activate the ABS. Just a thought. Have you had any luck on this since your fist post? ~Dave
I have the same sort of binding noise with only 2000 km's on mine. Even when not applying the brakes and just rolling forward a bit, I can hear the brakes rubbing. Would that be considered normal?
