DO NOT buy from OPMHARLEY

I recently purchased two heads for my 86 vf500 from opmharley who had a parts bike for sale on here awhile back. He posted pictures of the heads in the thread and they looked great, when they arrived the front head was damaged to the point it can not be used, the outer edge where the head lines up and seals is broken off in two places around where the end of the cams sit. I was obviously upset because these parts I paid alot of money for cannot be used. I contacted him and did not blame him for the parts being broken but instead clarified the condition before he shipped them. He claims that they must have been dropped during shipping which I believe, he did not purchase insurance on the parts when shipped so USPS will not cover them (already tried that route). SO I recontacted opmharley and asked if he would make this right. I asked him to pay for half of the part, since it wasnt his fault (although he didnt pay for insurance) and wasnt mine I feel like we should split the price of the broken part. Am I asking too much here?????

Anyways, he has not responded to any of my emails ever since he found out they were broken so I am going to seek legal help to resolve this problem.

Just thought I would let everyone out there know, he is not a good seller!!!! and always purchase insurance on those delicate items for your bike!!!!!

 

What is it with VF500's?

 

Was insurance discussed as part of the transaction? Was the packaging damaged? Were the proken pieces still in the packaging?

 

How much did OPM Harley charge for the parts? Going the legal route might not be worth it and you might just be better off using the legal funds to buy another VF500 engine.

It sucks man but at least learn from this, always get insurance!

 

PayPal would have given you some recourse...how did you pay him?

 

Only been burned once in all the transactions I have done on line so maybe this is yours. Let's hope so. Sorry and good luck but people like this have no spine and it may be best to lick your wounds if not through Pay Pal or a credit card.

 

I paid through pay-pal, how can they help?? I have been trying to find a way to get at least part of my money back but have not succeeded. The parts cost me $200, the box looked alittle beat up but I have seen worse, there were no chips or pieces of broken head in the box however so that is odd to me.

I told opmharley that I would be fine with splitting the cost of just the broken head, so he would just owe me $50 which I thought was pretty fair even if the part did break in shipping. Is that asking too much? Be honest! Anyways he has stopped responding me completely....

 

IF THERE ARE NO PIECES IN THE BOX, HE PUT THEM IN BROKEN. This guy sounds like a shady ass douche canoe, screw him too the wall!!

 

PayPal has a remediation service. They may or may not be able to help...worth a shot IMO. I doubt opmgarley wants a black mark with those guys...

+1 if the box was sealed tight and yet there are no chips that's really shady and the OPM Harley dealer is trying to screw you over. Not cool!

 

THat does NOT look like something that would happen in shipping to me. That would take quite a focused impact.

 

If you purchase something through paypal with an Amex card you can get an automatic refund within 90 days of purchase, you don't have to sweat the paypal remediation system if you run into a problem paying by paypal.

Food for thought on your next purchase.

 

In hindsight, I would be weary of buying anything from a member that only has a few posts here ( or that same rule for any forum ).
Someone that comes here for the sole purpose of offloading a few parts isn't really a part of the community and probably isn't very concerned with what any one says about him so its not very hard to sign up, sell something less then steller, get paid, and log out never to return again.
Now I am not saying that this is what happened, because I have no way of knowing. I do know that a member on here with a good reputation would want to protect that reputation by delivering what is promised ( in my case, I have had things arrive better then promised ).

If these are the same heads from his post about parting our a 1986 VFR then I dont see any damage.

Look at reply #5, there are no chips or issues that I can see. Shipping damage is not impossible if the box was broken open and resealed by the carrier. I'm not trying to defend anyone but filing a claim with the shipper wouldn't hurt. If its UPS they always deny the first request. Ask them to revisit the claim and actually look at it this time. I deal with them all the time at my job.

 

Looking carefully at the pictures, they are the same set of heads. The damage either occurred after the photo was taken or in shipping. I agree with JPorter that this does not look like shipping damage. It looks more like a floor drop to me. Although, if they were packed as pictured and had no padding within the box, I guess it is possible. Again, where is the missing piece?

Three months have nearly passed since this original post. Probably too long to do much...
