Some of you have been interested in the work I have been doing to my '97 VFR750.....http://vfrworld.com/forums/3rd-4th-generation-1990-1997/28245-winter-stripdown.html

Well, here is the bike in all its glory. Many hours spent in the garage and quiet a few ££££'s spent as well, but I think it's been worth the effort.
I suppose the worst thing is that no-one can really notice all the finer details and subtle changes, but I guess I know and I'm happy with that.

I know exactly what you mean by that statement. I'm going through that with my 1000R right now. It's all the pain staking detail work that you don't notice from a distance, but in our minds we know is there and worth the time invested.

You did an awesome job. Your bike looks like it just came off the showroom floor. May I ask how many miles / km you have on it?

Wow. Looks fantastic. What did you do to prep/paint the exhaust/header? I think my '97 looks good but it's not in your class!

Prep down to elbow grease and a variety of wire brush attachments for my drill. Paint is PJ1 exhaust paint, by far the best I have found for any exhaust I have ever had to re-paint. But preparation is the key to a good finish.

Just a wee update, the VFR is gone !! I just couldn't get on with the riding position (due in most part to a gammy right hand which I've had a couple of operations on) even with the bars being higher than the oe ones. Fortunately, I haven't had to give up riding and have bought myself a 2004 Yamaha Fazer 1000 (or FZ1 in U.S. speak). Totally happy with the latest bike, but I do regret having to sell so soon after putting all the hard work into it. On the plus side, I got a real good price, but I still lost a load of money considering what I spent on the VFR. Still, it's only money and the new owner couldn't be happier with his stunning piece of 1997 art.

So once again, goodbye VFR World. It's been fun.

The worst aspect was I went OTT in the refurbishment and spent waaaaay more than I could have got away with. But at the time, I didn't mind as the VFR was going to be a very long term keeper. The bike in total cost me (if my £ to $ conversion is correct) $6000 and I made a loss of just over $1000 (and I guess almost $5000 is pretty good for a 13 year old VFR750). However, my darling wife put it into perspective by saying, 'Don't worry about what you've lost, haven't you had several weeks of enjoyment working at it through the winter ?' She's just the best, especially when she was happy for me to go buy the Fazer.

Anyway, here's a few pics of the latest steed. 2004, one previous owner and only had 1688 miles on the clock when I bought it (now almost 4k ). The riding position is comfy enough for me to do long days in the saddle without the pain I was suffering in my right hand, so at the end of the day, I'm happy, she's happy and the new owner of the VFR is happy.
