Hello from Texas. Just bought an ex stunt '94 VFR California bike off Craigslist. It's not in great shape, but it's in better shape than most of the bikes I've bought in the past. I sold an '06 Ducati Monster 620 and hope that the VFR will be a little hungrier. The 620 was enough power to have a little fun, but you can only go so far with an air cooled twin. Hopefully this will be an upgrade. I've also got a trio of 1975 Hondas in the garage so I guess that means I bleed red (not much of a statement) I plan on cleaning it up and slipping some RC30 plastics that I've got over it. So far I've made my clip ons, started some rearsets, and have started to play around with the fuel tanks.
Welcome to the funhouse! You'll enjoy the VFR for sure. Ask questions, you'll find an answer amidst all of the craziness!
The night I brought it home... not bad for $600 It also came with what was left of a Corbin seat, and a cracked up dashboard. Stripped and cleaned Trash Simple, in the style of the RC30 sets A '91 tank that I got for a pretty good price. The rear mount will have to be moved about a quarter inch This is what she more or less looks like today. Happy glass day. Airtech, I know, I know, but they're the only ones that make them, and really I just need a place to start. I tried to design them with as little hardware as possible, only two M6 bolts. I'm not really a performance nut. My background's in design and I've always loved the eighties twin headlight superbikes, so when I sold the Ducati it was between a fireblade and a GSXR from that era, but the prettiest to me is hands down the RC30 which I can't afford to own and probably wouldn't want to ride daily anyway. So I resolved to build one, my goal isn't to fool anyone, it's just to own the bike of my dreams that I can ride every day. I'm sure I'll end up modifying the look of the old design a bit by the end of the project, modernize it a little. But as of right now I can't find anything about the original that I would want to change for any reason other than just to change it, and that's a lousy reason. The most obvious characteristic to modernize would be the headlight setup and that's my favorite part. Might try to do a one bright/one low beam setup instead of the stock all on/all off setup. I guess I wont know till I'm done.
Many welcomes to this garage of bikes and beer. Just not at the same time. You will find this place an interesting read.
