Yesterday I fired up the bike to head to work and it didn't want to idle, kept stalling out and it sounded off like a miss or something. I managed to take off and about a mile outside of town I geared down to make a turn and the engine stalled out again. I managed to fire it up again and proceeded to head home, 20 seconds later it seemed to wake up and took off like a scared rabbit. Seems it wasn't running on all cylinders. I picked up some plugs after work and found the old ones pretty fouled up and changed them all out. Took off this morning and all was well. Tonight however when I went to leave it wasn't running on all cylinders, after blipping the throttle all cylinders kicked in. What I also notice is my tach is completely dead while it's not running on all cylinders. Any ideas on where should I be checking?
Sounds like the 1-3 CDI box. Same thing happened to me about 4 yrs ago. Check out the topic "Fluctuating tachometer" is will have info for you also.
I just had the same problem with my '84 vf750f. It turned out the connector to the pulse generator was making a poor connection. I had the same problem with my rear brake light (also the connector). I replaced the factory Honda connectors with Deutch connectors and have had no problem since.
