Back when I started riding I (Barely) fit into a L size textile joe rocket pant I was ~34-36 waist back then. I quit riding cause my bike broke and I finally got it going again but unfortunatly I've gained weight and the pants no longer fit at all I'm like a 40 waist but i'm short 5'9 so all the pants I see with larger waists have a very tall inseem. What options do I have? Don't really have the money for custom fitting gear. Help  Been trying to lose weight but its not going as fast as when I was younger hehe and I want to do some riding. :VFR1200F:

Most manufacturers list their shortest inseams at 30", even for their larger sizes. Don't go by your regular pants size as you need the extra length when you "assume the position" on the bike seat. Try some on at a local dealer.

Check out the TourMaster pants. They offer their pant in various waist sizes but also have an option for short, regular, and tall for all the sizes. I have a pair of the Flex pants in short inseam and love them.

As meatloaf mentioned, First Gear does the same thing offering short, regular and tall.

Also +1 to AZ Traveler. If you're looking at overpants, you'd typically want your pants to be about 2" longer than your normal inseam, especially if they are going over a set of normal riding boots. It might be a little more forgiving if you have racing boots, where the pant would tuck and and be secured.

Have you actually checked into having the gear tailored. I have a seamstress that does work for me on occasion and she's very reasonable. She works from her house kind of at her own pace. I bet there is somebody like her near you, and then you can buy some decent pants that fit you in the waist and have the legs shortened. If you find a really good sale like at newenough.com you'd prob save enough to get the work done...
