Welcome from a former Montrealer! I used to bomb around town in my '84 (RW&B) 750 Interceptor when I lived there.

Welcome Arcey. I'm an English speaking Scot and I can't spell worth a shit so no need to appologise. I dream of some day coming out that was, preferably in the fall. I love history and Quebec certainly has that.

    Viva la VFRWorld!

    Thanks everyone !

I now face a though choice and your advice are more than welcome , I could get a VFR 2001 Silver with 33 000 Km for 5000 $ Canadian , comes with some soft bags , corbin seat plus original seat with solo thingie to cover passenger place at the rear ( wich I really like ) ; there also a 2003 with a bit over 60 000 Km for 6000 $ CAD but I would rather go with the 01 with les kilck on it , OR , I could wait till the end of next year and try to get a great deal on a brand new 2009 white one ( the one with the black bottom part ) straight from the dealer , since they still have 2008 here in Quebec they are trying to get rid of at around 9000 $ I figure I might be lucky and find the white one somewhere next year , but that is a wild guess ...

So many question haha , between the 5th and 6th gen from what I understand beside the redesign of the bike its either you like the Vtech thing or not , right ?
So beside the Vtech whats good and whats not on those two the 2001 and the 2009 ?

Should this be posted elsewhere in the forums ?

If you can get a brand new '09 for $9,000 CDN, you are doing extremely well. That would be my #1 choice. As far as 60,000 km on the "03, That is nothing. I just turned 102,000 km on my '06 and it still runs like a top. At 60,000 the thing is barely broken in. That would be my second choice

The two are actually quite different. I have only driven a 5th gen for a few miles and did not get into it cause it wasn't mine. Although the guy driving mine at the time was deliberately trying to get mine to kick out when the V-tech kicked in. I won't tell anyone that it was Reg71 who did that. You will find that those who have the 5th are just as passionate as those who own the 6th. Biggest difference is the 6th is a Vtech. But don't take my word as the authority on these things. I have only been riding since '06 and have only owned my present ride.

    Update ,

well I checked around and went to see a few 5th gen , 2001 mostly , unfortunately they werent taken care of properly ... scratches , broken pieces or very bad condition in general . It might just be me setting the bar too high but I just cant buy a bike that wasnt taken care of the way I would if it was mine.

So I am now trying to gather enough $$ to get a brand new 2009 before the end of the season , the best price I was able to get is just a bit under 12k with tax / prep , everything included . In the mean time Im getting everything else ready , got my jacket and gloves , boots , helmet is still b/o but should be in early August and tank bag should arrive this week .

Im now dreaming almost every night that im riding my bike haha

12 is no deal for the 09 that's pretty much MSRP. If you CAN swing a deal on the 09 "Stormtrooper" that is one sexy ass bike and I'd go for that quick! As Randy said, there's nothing wrong with the 03 either, that's what I got. Mileage has little bearing on these bikes as they seeem to have been built to run nearly forever, well, unless Reg is "test riding" it I suppose..............................:welcome:

    Just yankin ya Reg!

New the bike was 15 299 $ Canadian I beleive , Honda offers 4800 off , plus tax plus prep it should take us near 12 500 $ .

Im getting it for around 5300 $ less than it was last year , how much more should I try / expect to squeeze out of the dealer ?

This is the one I am after ,

well, I'm a bit late to the party, but I'm one of those 5th gen riders and we are usually to drunk to know what going on... j/k... I have ridden 1st gen, 4th gen, 5th gen and 6th gen. They are all good bikes. I am more comfortable on the 5th gen, but that's my bike nes pa? Anyway, if you are truly interested in a 5th gen, the is one for sale close to me for $2900 US that was temptation enough for me to consider a spare. Maintenance is cheaper on the 5th, but parts are cheaper on the 6th. The 5th has a whine that some like and some hate. Sounds like a supercharger. The 6th has the vtec kick. I think whatever you get, you'll like it. Just remember a VFR is not a supersport bike, it is a gentlemans sportbike.

12 Grand is in fact not a bad delal at all for a brand new 09. There is one sitting in my dealers show room for well over that right now. Metallican, You must understand we up here are hosers or should I say hosies. Anyway we always get hosed here eh? Mine was in the neighbourhood of 16K new.

Arcey, I am inpressed to no end that even though you are still working on getting the bike, you have started collecting the gear. Usually it is the other way around. Keep us in the loop.

Its not just the dollar. Our prices are high too. YOu know, we don't like to keep our money. We like to give a lot of it way to lazy shits who refuse to work too

Gear wise ... actually not just gear wise , Im very picky period . That why , I cant seem to find a decent use bike , I 've been reading reviews , shopping and trying gear early on so I have a chance to at least have a starting kit when I get the bike . I'll build from there after .

Btw I want to say thanks to those of you who took a minute here to give advice or just add their two cents , its really appreciated . I read a lot and learn a lot from the forums and the community just seem awsome here .

no no no - I'm late to the party :) welcome sir and you'll definitely enjoy your VFR when the time is right for you to purchase one! many will tell you, 5th or 6th gen (or any gen for that matter) does not matter and it's very true. Find a bike you're comfortable on, hit the roads and ride!
