    Too old?

If you'r too damn old, in as much as the wrists hurt too much from the riding position (Like me) try switching the handgrips out for the closed cell foam superbike grips (cost about $4) if you are even older than I am then try a set of Helibars (Will raise your riding position about an inch.) If you're still too old try the foam grips on the helibars. If you are still too old for that combination Trade the bike in on a Walker... :)

As a former Honda sales manager (back in the dark ages) I would guess that many dealerships take the rear cowls off while the bike is on display.
The reason?...lots of newbies don't know how to mount the bikes without scratching the rear cowl with their right foot.
Then when the bike is sold the nice unmolested rear cowl should be back on the bike for the new owner...at no additional cost.

About the rider's ages posted here...I'm 73 and I am enjoying the ride on my '98
immensely! I added the Heli Bars, plus a pair of "hand rests" (from eBay) and
a Throttlemeister. The hand rests attach around both grips. These have a
more natural curve and fit the palm of the hand much better than other
types on the market. Go to eBay and put in "motorcycle hand rests"...
Maybe when I get to 95 I'll put a pair of them on my walker ;o)

I've owned 48 bikes in 50 years of riding and the '98 VFR is one of the sweetest rides I've owned.
It's a much better street bike than my old RC30! Not as pretty, but much more comfortable.

Now if I can just find a better substitute for those crappy plastic fairing
fasteners I will be a happy camper. Yesterday I found two other crappy
plastic thingys that hold down the chain guard onto the swing arm. Of
course I broke one trying to remove the chain guard!

    Nuff said....saddle up....and let's ride!

    Yes!

Correct! I always used to cringe when I'd see bikes on display at a bike show with all sorts of marks and scrapes on the rear seat and /or cowl due to people (and unrestrained kids) climbing all over them..usually the proud father would be standing there as wee Jimmy scrapes his muddy Nikes all over the back of the bike. Damn sure he would have something to say if it was HIS pride and joy...and the poor salesman has to stand there and grin..

I was interested in your comment about the crappy plastic fasteners. I broke a few myself and asked the dealer for replacements. He showed me how to "set and reset them" . If you push in the centre a few mm then gently pull out the main bit it just falls out. No more breaking! Pull out the centre bit a few mmm to set it ready to re fit. Simple! Hope this helps. Hey FW - What'll give me for mine? My bikes a '98. The thing just hangs in the corner. I like the looks of it on, but I just find things easier to leave it off.

When i bought mine in November. one dealer said it didn't come with the bike, and the dealer i bought it from said it came with it. I found the covers for the handles under the seat. And as for being to old to ride this bike, no way, I'm 41 and have a blast on this thing. And remember, if your wrist starts hurting your not sitting right. Enjoy man this bike is a blast !!!
