    bike is a 83 750 v45

so i was comin up to a stop sign and proceeded to downshift slowly and crept up to the sign thinking i was in first . stopped and when i pulled away bike bogged i figured it was in second cuz i didnt push down hard enough big deal as i kept goin went to upshift and didnt feel like anything happend so i released the clutch and tried again stil in second pulled over checked lever to see if it was stripped or slipping but wasnt the problem. went home kinda thought might be a bent shift fork cuz that seemed to be what most people said online but after removing the cover and i can see that a spring on the linkage is broken cant' tell anything else goin on. goin to look more deeply at it in the morning

But if anyone has sugestions or had simlar problems please respond need help and direction thank you

Gen 1 shifter is is an old school design and it has been a number of years since I messed with one but if the spring is broken this could be a very simple fix. The spring holds a long arm down on the shift drum to catch and turn it, if the spring is broken the arm may just be skipping over the catch due to lack of tension. Gen 1 was prone to shift drums cracking at the fork guide but this sounds like much better news.

TC is correct. It's most likely the gearshift spindle spring. That was a common problem on the early ones. I had to replace mine back in 86 when it broke. They had a new style spring. Mines been working fine since. Here's what and where it is: Part #17.

I think you have to remove the clutch basket to get to it. It sets behind it. Seeing it was 24 yrs ago I don't remember what I had to do to replace it.You can order one from these guys. They are fast with shipping. Honda Yamaha Suzuki Kawasaki Sea-Doo Can-Am Ski-Doo Motorcycle Parts ATV parts Scooter Parts personal watercraft parts Accessories

Or you may be able to match one from a hardware store.

You asked about the torque of the clutch basket bolt. Book says 45-49 lbs. Can't see pics, I don't do facebook.
