    Hi all,

I replaced my coolant and oil last week. Since then, the cooling fan does not come on at 225-230 degrees like it used to. Did I break it?

The bike isn't overheating at all and seems happier with the new fluids.

I tried to burp it and get any air out of the system. First time I have done coolant so it's new to me.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

Check the fuse in the fuse panel as a blown fuse is generally the most common reason for a fan not working. I can't tell you where that is on a 5th gen but you'll be able to find it if you are able to change coolant. I've also heard stories of air getting trapped around the coolant temp sensor and causing it to not kick the fan on. Start checking wiring connections if the fuse is good and make sure that you didn't accidentally unplug the coolant temp sensor, the fan, or something else easily overlooked. It is hard to just "break" a fan short of breaking the blades on it.

Fuse panel on the 5th Gen is easily located under the seat.

Every time someone mentions the fan not coming on, I always mention to just make sure it moves manually (with the bike off, of course). I had the problem where the fan just got stuck for some reason, and it would blow the fuse. Finally just gave it a little push with the hand, and viola, no more blowing fuses, and fan comes on at 221 just like its supposed to.

Few things I would look at in addition to what everyone else has already mentioned:
    1. Remove fan switch sensor on left side radiator. I hear that air can sometimes get caught and cause issues.
    2. If you did not when replacing coolant, remove right side radiator cap start bike and snap the throttle a few time to ensure all air is out.
    3. Use multi meter and test current going to fan.

Might be a dumb question but I assume the fan worked before you changed fluids? Just changing out some coolant and oil should not effect anything.

Good to check out the wiring and the sensor but IMO you have air in your system and that changes the boiling point of the coolant. System probably needs purging. Your shop manual tells how to..
