For the first time since I started buying bikes, I decided to keep the stock exhaust on my bike. It has been close to two years and not a single speeding ticket; I used to average one a year. My driving has not changed so what gives. Could it be the silent whisper of my stock exhaust makes me invisible to cops?

Recently, I was driving south on my local highway, and saw a fellow motorcyclist approaching from behind. I heard him way before I saw him. He was not coming exceedingly fast, but was going faster than the speed limit. As soon as he passed me, I noticed a patrol car behind him. Again, he was not going faster than 10-15 miles over the limit, but his muffler made it sound as if he was going way faster than he was. Was that why I used to get so many tickets before? Does a loud muffler make us easy targets?

Like all of you, I like the roar of a finely tuned muffler, but is the threat of higher speeding tickets worth it?

Now, I'm looking for a nicely designed WHISPER QUIET muffler for my bike. Does any manufacturer make one of those (stock excluded)? Any suggestions...

I am sure you are correct in this thought. I have had MANY tickets on my second gen where the issuer of the ticket said he heard me long before he could see me.

I noticed this over the weekend while riding my buddies 06 600rr. He has a two bros slip on and when you going 40 mph the thing sounds like its trying to break the sound barrier. I love the way it sounds but definatly gives the impression the bike is moving way faster and working way harder than it really is.

Does anyone own a nice looking can that won't break the sound barrier?
