OK... For some reason, my brake light bulbs like to burn out the running light filament in about a week. I've been through two packs of bulbs, and the only thing burning out is the running light filament. Weird huh? No issues with any of the other running lights, only the brake light bulbs. WHAT THE HECK??? If there was a short it would blow the fuse right? So what the heck??? I bought the bulbs at Autozone, 7443 21W/5W or something like that... is there a difference between motorcycle bulbs and car bulbs?? I wouldn't think so... Anyway, any help here would be great!! YOU GUYS ROCK!!

check for bad ground. a bad ground will make the bulb draw too many amps and burn out. Possible sign of an RR starting to go to pot? When my RR was bad, I kept burning out tail light bulbs. since replacing it, I haven't burned one out in 170 miles and counting....

just to be safe make sure you have the right fuse in I had a major electrical failure once..... blew all the bulbs except mt high beam it acted like an EMP. any way it was the starter switch that was bad on mine...

If you have a fender eliminator on the bike I would check to make sure the connector is clean. If you are getting intermittent contact it could pop the bulb. The lack of a fender opens the socket up to more dirt and crud.

I'll check the connectors and see if I can trace the wiring this weekend. The other weird thing is that when one (remember it's only the running light filament on the bulb going out, brake light filaments are ALL good!) goes out, the other one is fine. It's not until I replace the bulb that the OTHER one will go out.

You have to remember that the running lights are always on and the brakes are only on sporadically. The ground will be common to both filaments, but they have different feeds for the power. If the RR is putting enough out to do this, it should be cooking the battery. I would definitely check it to be sure.
