Negative, not talking about the year of a bike. Im new to VFR and pretty much owning my own motorcycle as well, so Im just wondering if its worth it to put 91/93 grade gasoline in my 85 VF500F. Or just 87? Im not quite sure which is recommended since i have not received my Clymer Manual yet.
i've always used 93. unless i was in the uber country which only has 87 and you'll usuallly be lucky to even find a gas station
i put 87 in once, and just filled on 93, doesnt seem to be a huge difference, but im guessing that 93 or 91 is just cleaner for the engine anyways.
If you spend a little time on various groups and do a little Googling of the subject you will come to the conclusion that there is absolutely no benefit to running 93 unless your bike explicitly requires it. Some higher grade gas contains a few more cleaning additives, but if you are concerned about that, then you would be better served to run a bit of SeaFoam through your bike periodically. I had started off running 93 in all my bikes, but now I run 87 in all of them ('99 VFR800, '91 VFR 750, '02 CBR1100xx & '03 Hayabusa) per all their manuals BTW, with no problems. All VFRs are designed to run on 87 save the new VFR1200 and even then it only requires 91. The one side-note I read at one point that makes a small amount of sense is that you may actually be slightly harming your gas mileage by running higher grade fuel as more of the volume of the fuel is taken up by additives. Trust me, if you research enough, you will come to the same conclusion, but do the SeaFoam thing, that's a MUCH better use of your money. Another thread
