I want luggage, but have to carry passenger. Givi makes a rack called the wingrack, but I didn't have time to get one. My bike is an 85 VF1000F
    So, I'm building my own.
I bought some 3/4 Square tubing(steel, don't have the eqpt for alum welding and not very good at welding alum), so steel it is

I boult this rack to accomodate a Rapid transit tailbag. Helicoiled the top of the hand holds and fabbed some tabs for the front mount.

I installed new signal lights on the fender down by the license plate, stock ones were in the way.

The bottom rails I ran along the rear supports (in grey primer) and bolted them on (metric hardware, of course). I used an existing hole for the rear bolt, and heli-coiled it for an 8 mm bolt. the front bolt has a nut , but the support is channelled, so I ordered sone DEvcon plastic steel (part # 10240) and will fill the channel and heli-coil it for an 8mm bolt also. Devcon is awesome stuff, every diy'er should have it in his/her shop.

I added a cross brace just under the tail light.

Here is a pic of the bags mocked up. I still have to finalize the hold down straps. Saddle bags are Rapid Transit also

Everything is tacked together right now. I have to add another brace , remove it and weld it all up, and do some grinding.

I will then paint it to match my fork brace:

    Will post pics when completed

    Thanks

    Thanks guys-
Nice work on that rack Griddle. If I could Id build one for myself.
Dwntwnsac, for the cortech bags, do they just strap accross the seat, or do you need a rack of some sort to keep them away from the wheel?
