1986 VF500F, ran great until gas leak flooded engine. Sounds like engine wants to start up but the petcock is leaking so there's nothing I can really do until that's fixed. It was leaking from the reserve on/off switch so I drilled out the rivits and replaced all the parts I could but where do I get one of those 4 holed o-ring/gaskets?? Mine looks all chewed up and I'm starting to strip out the new screws by taking it apart and reassembling it hoping it will work. ANY ideas?

Oh, and uh, I wasn't happy when I took the gas tank off, and now I don't remember where a hose goes...I got photos I'd be happy to post.

I've already done the gravity feed mod, but it looks like I've never had a fuel pump? It's blocked off where my manual (and everyone else) says the fuel pump should be. My manual only has specs for '84-'85, did the '86 come without a fuel pump?

Thanks for your ideas! VFHose02circled.JPG VFHose03circled.JPG

You will have 2 Tubes going to the Petcock.....the larger hose (that is sorta S shaped and attaches to the Y splitter) goes to the fuel outlet of the Petcock (make sure to push this sucker in ALL the way) and the longer, skinnier tube attaches to the lower nipple on the petcock. (this tube goes to the cylinder head)

No that Petcock seal isn't available anymore, and neither is the entire assembly. You may be able to get an entire Petcock off ebay or at a local motorcycle scrap place.

FYI....only an 86 Petcock will fit your bike. 84-85 ones are different.

Thanks for the help, y'all. I've got ideas on what to do with the petcock now and I'll let you know how it goes.

I still don't know about this hose though. I see the fuel line and the breather line, as labeled in this pic. The hose in question leads from all 4 carbs into a connector and then up into the circled hose in the pic. Thanks for looking. VFHoseIssueExpl.JPG

Check out this thread:1986 interceptor 500 fuel petcock

    I copy from post #8

"I made a search for the 4-holed rubber. Original dimensions are 21mm diameter, 2.8mm thick.

Possible replacements are (Ebay seller responses for dimensions are in parentheses):

    Honda Gold Wing GL1000 GL 1000 (approximately 13/16" x 1/8")
    1973-77 Yamaha XS650 xs 650 TX650 (It's about 21mm across and about 3mm thick. ) "

Measurements of the 4holed rubber comes from a '85 petcock.
Good luck and keep us informed about your findings.

TGross....I think my bike has the same "What?!" hose as yours. Mine just points downward with nothing attached.
