Hello, I'm new to this site and i'm buying my friends 1999 vfr 800. I know that this has been posted several times but I need to lower my bike. I can only touch my tip toes and don't feel comfortable on it. Any help would be great, thanks
You can start by raising the fork tubes in the triple clamps. There is one inch right there. Next check the web for a lowering link for the rear, and if there is none, ask KOSMAN Specialties to make one for you. Tell Sandy Kosman I sent you. Could just be that high ass end up in the air. That whole seat thing can be lowered. Trust me. Make sure you do not lower it so far that the rear wheel hits your ass. It can be low like this :
Check the Owners Manual. Not sure about that year or model but for my 07, it goes over how to lower the bike in the Owners Manual.
There are a couple ways to lower your bike. Use the search feature to find some helpful threads showing how to do it by rotating the lower shock mounting trianlgles and lowering the forks in the trees. Also, Sigma Cycles make a kit which a number of people have praised. Good luck.
I just installed the Signa Cycle system on my 98, like it a lot. A bit expensive considering it ships in a small box however contains high quality and well thought out components. The Honda mechanic who installed said they were solid, cnc'd precise. I think the risers are good answer instead on a spacer (or none), raises handlebar (w/standard cables) to be a little more comfortable for long periods in the saddle. The bike sits looks better, sits flat, rides well, handles nice and coolest part is my feet are planted flat at a stop.
