So..I just bought a 1984 VF500 Interceptor. I thought it needed nothing, or only a front tire to safety. Turns out this is what it needs.

New front tire (no big deal) $119
New front brake level (bent apparently, not noticeable tho) $15
New Rear shock (no oil left) $1100
    Front forks alignment $90

So I've seen this whole F2 modification for the rear shock, which I will most likely do.

They said that they suspect an oil leak, which I never noticed while riding around or leaving it idle.

    Any other comments or advice?

I am very good with cars, but have never worked on a bike before, I'm sure I could make the transition tho.

You can align the forks yourself in about 15 minutes. It's only about 6 bolts, loosen the lower triple clamps only, then loosen the axle clamps slightly. Roll the bike gently (and perpendicular) into a wall or parking block. Tighten everything up. If that doesn't align things then I suspect a tweked triple clamp and that would require some extensive time, skill, and parts.

Sounds like the bike had a bad crash?

I have my old stock shock and maybe an old brake lever hanging around.

If not you can get these parts off Ebay easily.
