i have a 91 vfr that i have bought at the end of last season and did a bunch of cosmetic work crack repair paint ext. and now have looking tight cosmeticly. looking over the exhaust, i would really like to remove the collecter and put in a " Y " pipe to tie the frwd band and the aft bank then into the slip on.just wondering if anyone has done anything like this and the results.( need for rejetting, power improvment or loss, and sound) any info would be great thanks
while i haven't done this, a starting point may be to look at the Gen4 collector which is much simpler than the "bedpan" arrangement on the gen3. I dont know if the mounts etc are the same, but a gen4 collector from a design perspective is along the lines of what you are looking for. so i have been doing a lot of research over the last few days as well as bouncing ideas of of fellow mechanics at work and it looks like i am gonna pull the collector and put in the "Y" pipe and ditch all the back pressure. for tuning i am gonna go with a wide band fuel/air sensor from nkg (a little pricey but but should give maximum tuning ability with out putting out 150$ a dyno run) so i wont be starting the project till the season is over, but i will up date progress and end results this winter. any thoughts or tips are more than welcome
