My 2002 fuel gauge never seems to shows full bars, even when the tank is full to the filler neck?! Anyone have the same issue?

well, my 5th gen wont display full for very long. that first bar seems to disappear within minutes, but it does read full for a little while...

I have the same thing. I find you can squeeze more fuel in and get full bars if you prop the bike up on the center stand and fill it up when it's completely upright.

My 6th gen (2002) will show all 8 fuel bars but that last fuel bar is typically gone by 15 to 20-something miles. Sometimes it's even less- like 8 miles or so. I do fill ALL the way up to the opening with the bike on the centerstand.

I was hoping (sorry for the hijack) that your posting was the one that I keep forgetting to make. My 2003's fuel gauge only displays all the bars for a very short time, but the real problem is that it varies wildly. Today (on about two thirds to a half tank), the gauge went from six bars to two, to four, to two, to five or six. You get the idea.

    Any clues?

It's a good question, but no: I couldn't see any relationship between the terrain and the display.

You'd think that HONDA might put some notice or "fix" out there if this is a common problem? Makes for some tense rides when you've got 3 bars showing and 200 miles till the next gas pump?

Same thing for me. I fill with the bike on the center stand. Fill it up all the way. It shows eight bars for about two miles and then, gone until the next fill up. I'm so used to having a bike without a fuel gauge that I don't really rely on the gauge that much. Better for me to conservatively judge the range of the bike by mileage calculations. When the trip meter hits 200, I start looking for fuel.

my first bar is gone in a matter of 6-8km, it does bounce a bit, though ive found that my connector on the bottom of my tank was/is still loose on the return pin. the bouncing has slowed down but its still there, if im curious as to how much is still in the tank i stop and look inside.
