Well guys, i just got home from the hospital. While ridding home today on my 2007 RWB with a grand total of 1,100 miles on it, I cam over some railroad tracks at 30 mph to find a pickup truck stopped at the next set of tracks without the train crossing arms or lights activated. Once I realized the truck was stopped in the middle of the road for no reason I hit the brakes.

Well as I was in a curve and all the loose debris and gravel, the front wheel went to the right, right out from under me. I went left striking the pavement with my left shoulder. As i hit I heard a "pop". Once I came to a stop I tried to sit up and heard another pop, so I stayed down.

ESM arrived and I was transported to the local hospital. Seems the "pop" I heard was my shoulder separating and the second pop was it going back in. The Doctor said that just saved me the money of him putting it back into place.

Everybody has asked me how the bike fared. I have no idea, I never got back up under my own power, and in a neck brace on a backboard you can't see anything.

I have to say one thing guys. It did ruin my helmet with road rash and ripped the visor off. but I had just purchased a blue Joe Rocket CBR mesh jacket. all my friends have been making fun of me wearing it in our 95 - 100 degree weather here. the jacked sustained a scuff mark about 4 inches around on the front of my left shoulder. That was all! EMS was kind enough to take it off of me instead of cutting it. The fall tore off my phone pouch cover, the parts of my shirt that were sticking out past the jacket, and the entire top of my shoe. I am a firm believer that without that jacket I would look like a bloody mess and would probably have broken something as opposed to just the separation. The ONLY road rash i have is on the top of my left foot where it took the entire top of my tennis shoe off. I'll be wearing boots from now on!!

My shoulder hurts, but that is nothing compared to the looks I got on the 45 minute car ride on the was home from my wife.

I have full coverage insurance and med pay, so all should be good. I just hope they fix it as opposed to totaling it. I don't want to drive all over the country trying to find another new one!!!

Wish me luck tomorrow, I'm sure that's when all the pain will kick in!! either from the wreck or my wife beating me in my sleep for this!! LOL

It doesn't matter how many miles you have on your bike, it is unfortunate what happened to you. Definitely a plus that it sounds like you're walking away unscathed. The bike can be repaired. Let us know the damage once you get a chance to look it over. Good luck with the wife!

gear is good. glad to hear you emerged relatively unscathed.

machines can be replaced easily. body parts not so much.

get yourself a set of investment grade boots. you wont regret the $.

Glad you fared well in the drop. After my run in with Bambi a few years back I have become an ATGATT Natzi. SEE IT HELPS! Bummer about the RWB. Plastics and metal can be fixed up faster the flesh and bone.

Thanks for all your support guys. It's nice to hear I'm not the only one who has been through this. The day after I am sore as hell, but at least my shoulder has stopped popping in and out this morning so far.

Well the wife immediately said "well that's it" and she lost her mind when I said "man, I sure wish I could ride my bike home". After some time, she has calmed down. I have been a deputy for a long time and she was used to that daily danger. For the last year I have been working for an attorney so I think she has gotten comfortable with the lower daily risk. I had a bike when I met her, so she knows that's nothing new. i guess the true test will be when all is done and I either have to ride my repaired bike home or look ofr a new one.

Speaking of being a deputy, this in a city of the county I worked in, it was kinda funny as the police officers showed up and I'm flat on my back with all the EMS around, they would walk up and say "hi Gary" like we were meting for lunch. LOL

I wondered what you had on your feet when you said in chat that you got road rash on your foot... Before I could afford riding boots, I used to wear construction boots and heavy jeans. Then once I got enough cash, I got some icon jeans that were made for crashing and some alpinestars boots that were on sale. When I upgraded those I sold them off on CL to someone who needed better boots to keep the gear going. Glad your jacket worked. Unfortunately, I have crash tested mine a few times...but it has worked every time.

My next question is, who repairs a damaged bike like this. A body shop or a dealership? I hate to sound stupid, but in all my years of ridding a street bike, (since I was 14) I have never had to take one for accident repair. No pictures of the damage yet, but I called the wrecker service and she said "it's not too bad" for what that's worth. I'm going to run by when they open and take a few pictures and get my stuff out of the saddle bags.

SOOOOO glad you are (relatively) OK. Glad you had that jacket on - All The Gear All The Time FTW! I'm also really sorry about the RWB as I know that is one of the most painful parts of this story.

Hopefully all you'll need are a couple of plastics & some paint, but that's for later on. Take care of that shoulder!

Sorry to hear about your crash. I ordered that same jacket on Saturday morning from newenough.com Hope it's not salt in the wound, but for anyone else reading this thread; that jacket's on sale in their discontinued section for $79 and less depending on color (+shipping). Some sizes in some colors are sold out already. It's called their "CBR" jacket but the patches just say "HONDA".

Not sure who'd you'd take that thing to for repair. If insurance is paying then new panels would be preferred over repaired ones. That thing is new enough that panels should be readily available. Make sure to KEEP YOUR OLD PANEL. You can always get someone to fix it up and have a spare. Never know when a tip-over in the garage may bugger it up again. JMO

Glad to hear that you're ok, relatively speaking. As people have said before, bikes can be replaced easily enough, body parts can't. Take the time to heal up, don't speed up the recovery and do anything too quick. Good luck.

Tell your friends to go screw themselves. That gear literally just saved your skin.

    Here's to a quick recovery.
