    Hi.

My starter crushed a brush, so I had to install new brushes. But as I reassembled the starter to the engine and pushed the start-button the starter didn't turn the engine. So i removed the right engine cover and saw that the starter was turning backwards..! How is this possible..? Is it my rectifier that is broken.? (the broken starter damaged my battery.. so maybe the rectifier too.???)

    Please help me - someone..!

Does your CD player play heavy metal music backwards, revealing Satanic messages? ;-)

Is it possible that you got some wires internal to the motor crossed? I'm just guessing as I haven't had the opportunity to rebuild a starter motor yet.

The starter motor is actually very simple and as I see it, it is not possible to reassemble is wrong ( although the original Honda-manual mention it as a possibility ) - see exploded drawing in link below:

Ohio, Florida, Honda, Parts, Accessories, dealer, Honda Direct LIne

I'm not very good at the electric part of repairing - so could anyone please help me...

The starter is a DC motor. The only way to make it change direction is to reverse the polarity of the supply voltage.

As it is unlikely that the external, hookup, wiring is reversed (i would hope), I can only assume that if the brush holder is installed 180 out, that it will run backwards. That is where I would start looking.

+1 I can't think of any other reason it would spin backwards as it would be very hard to reverse the wiring.

The starter grounds to the engine so unless you reversed the polarity of the entire electrical system this is not your problem. If the Honda manual says it's possible to assemble it incorrectly, I suspect this is what happened.
