I was just wondering how the reserve tank inside my gas tank works (86 VF500F). Like, how does it fill up when I pump in gas and such and such. Would anyone happen to know what it looks like or be able to draw a cross sectional diagram?

The tank is one piece inside.
When you switch to Reserve the Petcock will begin to draw the fuel from its base rather than the straw that is higher up.

If you want to be accurate, for the VF500 tank at least, you need to add good quantities of rust dust and flakes hovering around (trying to escape from pinholes)
Your illustration is very misleading my friend
